I don't mean to imply that progressivism is disparate from marginalized communities, only that there is a strain of leftist thought, that in practice presents any opposition as unintelligent or unthoughtful.

Probably fair. This is central to the paternalism of whiteness more generally, but I've felt like there's a specific brand of "radical" leftist thought that is dismissive of alternatives. Any alternatives to their preferred candidate.

I hate doing this because it puts unrealistic expectations on an artist who probably just wants to do their own thing, but my God does Joy Crookes feel like the heir apparent to Amy Winehouse's sound.
