I wish I would have seen this while I was holding down Gathering Grounds!

I totally would have shown up to meet more cool people.

Thankfully, it’s never too late to meet cool people!

Gonna need a new eternal Discord link posted to the Linktree to do so. I’ll BRT, @disabledgamers.bsky.social!

Will you be attending MagicCon Atlanta, identify as a Disabled Gamer, and are interested in organizing and/or tabling for Disabled Gamers and Allies in The Gathering Grounds at the convention?! Hop into our Discord, link in bio!

There are worse clubs, by far. At least this one is the largest, the most empathetic, and soooo inclusive. Anyone can join, and at anytime in their life!

I’m definitely looking out for ways to represent for the disabled community in MtG spaces and grow my own awareness.
renothevast.bsky.social
I joined the group this year ❤️

I don’t wish a disability on anyone, but it takes an uncommon amount of base empathy to begin to understand the issues disabled people face. For too many reasons, able people don’t have the empathy, and it sucks.

People like the cards, and they like the sets, but they aren’t in love with the idea of a wacky grab bag of non-magic IP showing up in more and more games.

I wish they would print UB sets to be able to stand alone, as a whole universe. 188 cards isn’t a universe.

It’s a sorely mid half-cube.

If you are Central Florida and gay in any way, you are family.

Let me know if I can make you a meal, or show up in your life to help with a thing. I can present very cis male hetero for situational advantages.

Also, if your drinking water sucks, I know how to fix it and many statutes for renters.

Are you trans in the Magic the Gathering space? Are you creating, supporting, even just playing and having fun!?
Sound off. Celebrate yourself here. Find each other. We're stronger together.

Are you an ally? Boost us. Show support. Help us feel safer out here.

They’re almost certainly being paid.

Probably 4-10 times the average elementary school teacher salary.

Each.

I’m using your post as an excuse to press the like for Kass again!

I brought a mask, but so little masking was going on that it seemed fairly moot.

If it weren’t for Covid and immunocompromised friends being a factor, I would have not had one at all.

But you are right.

It would have been nice to have masks at the door to give. Probably would have influenced me.

Ewwwww gross

Glad I got real ones in Atlanta!

Agreed. Set up the marvel universe in a big anchor-set release, then roll out like six expansions, one for each infinity stone, each with a faction of good vs their villains. Wrap it up with the Infinity War set, like Aftermath was, but more like a premium product should be packed, for sealed play.
renothevast.bsky.social
I understand the risks to block construction, and I agree that no player should feel pushed-out on a vibe mismatch.

I think there is middle ground to be had, especially for Lorwyn, or an attempt to do justice to the vastness of Star Trek and its former ccg.

They almost did it with D&D. Felt good.
renothevast.bsky.social
If you’re not tasting the spices in my take, you are probably a well-seasoned individual that would like slower releases with more time and depth in each setting.

Plus, block release would really help with giving sealed/limited formats more variety and giving your cubes more asthetic continuity.
renothevast.bsky.social
Block design is story telling. It is an anchor set that builds a world, establishes a dynamic and factions. It is expansions that hetrodyne with game mechanics to immerse you into the vibes of the setting and art.

Imagine… EoE2…?

And they’ll still sell cards just as quick as they can print them.
renothevast.bsky.social
The other bad decision was in choosing when to release it.

It’s a standard legal product that STOMPED on EoE’s presence at #MCAtlanta. It was immediately panned for its design and playability, which means they skimped on beta-test and/or disregarded feedback.

Blocks solve this, even if staggered.
renothevast.bsky.social
The set was designed small to begin with. When they had to expand the size of the release to accommodate various demands, they didn’t/couldn’t commit to making a cohesive set. Instead, we’re chasing a Soul Stone and playing lots of legendary Spider-People. @spice8rack.bsky.social explains well:

I don’t often give the hot take, but today I’m feeling a little spicy.

Block Construction for set releases needs to return. Maybe not for every set, but (hottest take here):

Universes Beyond sets are too small and ephemeral. Spider-Man set has, in 2 major bad-for-business ways, supported my claim:

WotC should be considering whatever their Star Trek release is now, to be the first of several releases.

I want/expect this (first) set to feel like a block release. A huge opener that builds the world and establishes the factions into the color pie.

Small sets for any number of arcs.
