I designed this symbol using the morew and shiki motifs to represent the movements of the Ainu diaspora, the Repunkuru. Waves moving across the ocean in every direction, but our hearts still return to the center with our ancestors in Ainu Moshiri 🌊🌊🌊🌊

ghost of yotei reminds me of this book I read about "making asian americans" or whatever, constantly framing "america" as a place that already existed for them to come to, as opposed to Indigenous Nations they had to invade and tear down to build their amerikkka on top of

The thing is, in the REAL 1603 Ainu still had the upper hand on the island as Wajin only occupied a small part.

The way Hokkaido’s portrayed in the game makes it look more like more than a century later after Ainu power had waned with increased settlement.

Even without looking at gameplay it’s easy to tell what it’s going for.

Ginkgo leaves are everywhere. Not just on the cover but also in the logo and display props.

Ginkgo trees aren’t native to Hokkaido - colonists brought over much later than the game’s setting of 1603.
