Another AI-related question for the Narthex: Pretend you're the interim rector/vicar of a congregation and you miss a vestry/BC meeting. At that meeting, another associated clergy person proposes a new logo for the congregation. It's AI-generated. The vestry/BC ADOPTS it. What's your plan? ⚓

Guillermo del Toro on wealth: "a wealthy man is a man who has enough, not a man that needs more. If you have enough to invite someone for a beer? You're rich. If you have a yacht, planes, islands, and you still need more? You're not rich."

Can I get a clergy* opinion? You write a stewardship letter and send the letter to a committee for input. The committee is like, “This is great, but so it would fit better on the page we shortened it using ChatGPT. New draft attached!” How might you respond to that?

I’m certainly glad that I lived through the era of my life where I thought I knew everything about everything.

IMO many Americans don't even buy guns for personal protection or to defend themselves against a tyrannical government. They simply have a shopping addiction

I have a dog that is quite vocal when she wants something. The problem is that I dont speak “Billie.” Sometimes I have to send videos to my spouse at work to say “Why is Billie crying?” This morning it was because her blanket wasn’t in the right spot, and she needed it adjusted to take her nap. 🤦🏻

I know it’s not in the hymnal 📕, but wonder if I could talk the music director into doing “Shake it Out” by Florence + the Machine as a pairing with the Gospel text? 🧐

if you are overwhelmed, I highly recommend:
-making a list of things you don't care about being out of the loop
-cutting down on alcohol
-cleaning, organizing and decluttering your home instead of doomscrolling
-making plans with friends
-weekly therapy
-charging your phone away from your bed

And, lest I fail to do my deacony thing and advocate for the material needs of folks: RELYING SOLELY ON VOLUNTEER LABOR, ESPECIALLY WHEN ESTABLISHING SYSTEMS, IS UNJUST AND INEFFICIENT. Pay people to do the heavy lifting. It's worth the money, I promise.

Y’all. My spouse is terrible at border-crossing. The first time we crossed into Canada she made a joke about guns in the car being mandatory in Texas. You betcha we got detained. 🤦🏻Yesterday she was trying so hard not to say something that would get us detained that when asked why …

Sort of out of the blue this weekend I was gifted two new stoles: a parishioner thought I needed something colorful to wear for my speech at the local pride festival, and the other was made by a friend who is getting into making vestments (because his husband is a priest). I’m so impressed by both!

I’m having the kind of hectic week where today when I was working out I looked down at my legs and said “wait, when did I shave my …leg?” Not only did I forget that I’d shaved, halfway through said shaving I apparently just … quit. Good times.

OK, Narthex, help a musically-challenged priest out: hymns and songs that would be good for a Service of Renaming that’s happening August 6, Feast of the Transfiguration? ⚓️

Hi Episcopalians of Narthex, a religious studies professor friend is in search of commentary on the development of/changes to our liturgies for same-sex marriage. Does anybody have a contact or a reading suggestion I could pass along? 📕

I’m not gonna go so far as “never” here, but I’d love it if I heard less “lettuce” endings.
Preaching and teaching the gospel should never be hortatory, but revelatory. A sermon should not end with "let us..." but with promise--a scriptural promise from the Father in Jesus Christ with the power of the Spirit.
(and by the way, politicians should never say "I promise you...")

When my wife said “this year Jesus is found in the White House” I thought she was having a stroke. Turns out she was just reading a sign.

OK, Narthex, I know that this is only tangentially related to the faith, but I suspect that y’all are going to have suggestions: I’ve read the Louise Penny books. Give me ideas for a cozy mystery series for light-ish Sabbath reading? 📕
