Went to a book signing with @maryrobinettekowal.com, @jeshonard.bsky.social, and @marieparks.bsky.social

Unfortunately, Mary Robinette told a sweet story about her cat... And invoked my grief for Edgar.

When I got to talk to them, I was struggling to keep it together, and could barely speak.

Last week, I was on chewy, and decided it was time to remove Edgar's pet profile. I saw an option to change it to a memorial, so I did.

Yesterday, I got this delivered to my house.

I didn't know they did this. And it's some of the most amazing customer service I've ever seen.

Really looking forward to graduating from the find-out stage to the never-let-this-happen-again stage.

Dear Game Devs

STOP GIVING CHARACTERS MOVEMENT ANIMATIONS IN CHARACTER CREATION WHEN YOU'RE CUSTOMIZING HOW THEY LOOK.

My spouse (a therapist) told me I was the example to teach their client about the difference between acceptance and settling...

Not of what it means to be accepting, no, but as how they've had accept that being married to me means cupboards being left open, because I'm incapable of closing them.

You know those mornings when every little thing is going wrong? Where you keep having to pivot and change tasks because little mistakes keep piling on?

And really all you want is coffee but the normally 4 step process has become 15 or more and you STILL don't have coffee?

Yeah, that's today.

One week ago I had to put down my cat Edgar...

While surgery and treatment had a chance of giving me another year with the Floof, I couldn't put him through the meds and many trips to the vet he would have had to suffer through. He hated car rides, and would have been miserable in his survival.

Yesterday I made ginger snap cookies.

I almost put off doing so until today... But I'm so glad I didn't.

Because today I'm sick with a head cold, and I have ginger snap cookies to make up for my misery.

Remember the first step to understanding something is to first accept that you're a fucking dumbass.

Because it's just SO likely that you're a dumbass, that it's just smarter to start there every single time.

One of the hardest things, so far, about creating a fantasy setting has been coming up with plausible, and understandable, insults and slurs.

It starts with extrapolating from the values of the society, but the real hard part is making them recognizable through minimum context clues in dialogue.

Australia has so much electricity from solar power that it is going to start offering free electricity to everyone for at least three hours during the day as the wholesale price of power goes negative

Australia has so much solar that it's offering everyone free electricity
Australia's extensive solar power penetration makes so much energy that the government wants to offer free electricity at peak hours.

I mean... 1 million people just up and leaving would probably fix the price of rent in New York...

My social circle consists of a bunch of queer neurodivergent leftists, so this political climate is the most likely topic.

So I'm pretty sure politics is why I find it so difficult to keep being social, given that I'm generally just trying to not drown in this fire hose of a news cycle.

Based on some reddit discourse:

People like Joss Whedon aren't working anymore due to their own actions, but not in the way you think.

Allegations aside, Joss isn't working is because HE made HIMSELF unprofitable.

It'd be nice if it were about justice, but it's always only about the money.

Recently increased my words per session goal to 1k words an hour.

The hope being that forcing a higher word count would require me to have no choice but to completely ignore the desire to edit while I write.

I made something using old bay seasoning* about 5 hours ago, and I've washed my hands 4 times since... And my hands still smell like old bay.

(*Technically it's not old bay, but I made a copy cat blend.)

First year anniversary with my wonderful spouse.

In many ways it's been a long and difficult year... But being married has been the easiest part of it all.

The present and future is terrifying, but I couldn't have chosen a better person to face it all down with.

Minor bunny health scare.

Luckily, last time, the Vet sent us home with enough meds to deal with this issue 4 times over.

So, he's fine now, but how do I explain to a rabbit that just because we CAN deal with it, doesn't mean we WANT to deal with it... So he really should stop freaking us out.

Apparently I'm old now...

Only 1 of 5 of the coffee shop employees this morning even look old enough to drive.

One of them, if seen without contact, I'd have probably guessed is 13.

At first the Scene/Sequel formula seems simplistic and stupid.

As you think more about it, you'll realize it's just how our dumb ape brains naturally format story.

And let me tell you, once you get it down, the story just pours out of you with ease.

With 17 days remaining before our first year anniversary, we finally were able to get my spouse's name change completed.

It's been a veeery long year.

The true slippery slope was the GOP all along.

Or, I guess, lately it's a cliff and for some fucking reason we let them drive the bus.
