I love that this has fallen into Lance’s hands. I remember getting the pitch email and feeling shocked at how completely Xbox had cut the local branch off. Xbox ANZ’s highest profile activations went from building huge, functioning gamer hotels in Hyde Park to this in the space of 10 years.
I unboxed this on stream the other day but I gotta show youse this hideous Xbox I bought off a friend that he won in a competition. He sold it to me super cheap cause he had no interest in it. Amazing. My first Xbox Series X console lol

So very tired, but I couldn't let 2025 end without taking stock of Microsoft's embarrassing treatment of gaming, Windows, and indeed human beings while it chases the AI money train
Microsoft's year of shame
Can't make a few trillion dollars without ditching game developers, going googoo gaga for AI and supplying tech to the military, I suppose!

To lose Vince Zampella is such a tragedy and such a loss for the industry as a whole. To lose him under such tragic circumstances is just so heartbreaking. What a body of work, what a guy. Rest in peace.

"Hey ChatGPT, how many people can I lay off and still make this game from start to finish in 18 months?"

"First off, I just wanna say how remarkable your question skills are. I can see why you would be the one in charge. From what I can tell, several well performing games were made with one person"

The year is 2035. There are three game studios left. Each one produces a game every 10 years, killing 250+ developers in the process. They all accidentally make the same game because they used genAI in preproduction. They sell 500 million units each, missing quarterly targets. Everyone is laid off.

Zero said it did. Most said it made things harder.
