The fact that TFG, of all people, can use the phrase "moral outrage" without being instantly struck by lightning seems to me like a compelling argument that God does not exist.

On October 16, Netflix releases a new season of one of those shows where a State Department career comes with a wardrobe refresh and a makeover, and as God is my witness, I will be finished with the quarter close in time to spend that day watching VERY FINE ACTORS chew scenery

I needed to run an errand before dinner and now I ma too hungry to be able to start cooking right away.

Bodies are inconvenient.

Plywood sure has come a long way since the days when it was opaque and shitty.

With someone filming! Two people!

(Dang.)

If true, a caveat I now apply to all media, this sounds like a symptom of dementia making its way into executive directives. It suggests that the person giving orders is senile, and the people passing orders on are not able to exercise judgment.

The Trump administration has ordered FBI employees in Washington, DC, to immediately search their workstations and digital media for any records pertaining to the disappearance of Amelia Earhart, a law enforcement source told CNN.

Sounds like a symptom of dementia progressing into a more severe stage.

The Mexico episode was really egregious.

I spent enough time in the UK to know what they mean by flapjack (a brick of carbs guaranteed to knock me out during seminar). While I have trouble imagining a refined version I prefer GBBO messing around with British food to GBBO cracking jokes about people who aren't British.

Or the time we discovered that Paul Hollywood can't say "tortilla" while a contestant tried to peel an avocado using potato peeling technique.

It's got to be better than the time they made s'mores, right?

What are we doing to stand in solidarity this week ?

Not a question to answer on line, but absolutely a question to think about.

A state legislator, goat farmer AND a national poetry slam champion? Is he romantically available?
ricevermicelli.bsky.social
He makes his own chevre - does he keep his own goats?

(Did you sell a whole actual politician a book with the White Rat?!)

That said, this guy mostly seems sloshed. Everyone gets a night off and a night out, and if he's worried about his religion, his sex life and his cooking all becoming illegal, I'm probably good with him having political power.

Every day, someone in a position of great authority does something that makes me wonder how I ever developed imposter syndrome.

Some of it, you can fix with phrasing.

There are wilderness-consuming machines that if you talk to them too much, they make you insane.

We built the Fae.

All the sentient AIs i read about when I was a kid were accidents occurring when a system built to do work reached a sufficient level of complexity. This seems much more likely, more productive and more beautiful than anthropomorphizing predictive text engines.
ricevermicelli.bsky.social
I believe that AI is mind-melting predictive text that's bad for everything.

I also believe that Murderbot has inherent value and dignity, and so does ART.

That last, for me, is a huge part of a bedtime routine - it's about being available to your child.

The 99 nights when you give a mouse a cookie and sing nonsense are groundwork for the 1 night in 100 when they need something real and complicated.
ricevermicelli.bsky.social
Bedtime stories can do that too. Sometimes it's about entertaining your audience, and sometimes it's about droning them to sleep. AI can't make that decision, or guess what your kid's resonant sleep frequency is, and AI sure as shit cannot stand in when a kid needs a conversation, actually.

I will continue to do this until every Patient Finance office in every hospital is converted back to a space for the provision of patient care. Or a public toilet. I'm fine either way.

I *have* noticed long ER wait times, and I have put the blame squarely on the shoulders of the for-profit medical industry that denies many people access to more appropriate resources for non-emergent health care.

I imagine this as a lisped sneeze kind of noise that Boy has to make whenever he spots Girl in a crowd. For someone with my collection of abdominal scars, this is painfully funny. I would pay to see someone attempt this. Or for a recording.
