After the vehicular violence and aggression I witnessed against fellow cyclists tonight (very literally: to get to the takeout place slightly faster) I’ve decided I need more beauty in my life. A photo of the Milky Way I snapped some time ago.

#photography

Maybe next week I should take the bus.

I just decline invitations from people I haven’t worked with. It’s a super easy way to down-select against the sales weasels.

If you have bicycles handy, the cotton valley rail trail is lovely. If no bikes, it’s a nice walk. Downtown has a couple of good coffee shops - Harmony had good cider donuts and decent espresso last time I was there.

Dunno what else… I just ride bikes 😀

Just some pretty and maybe -hopefully- distracting #photography. Because, you know, everything.

Cruciferous vegetable night was a mistake.

I am the all-singing, all-dancing garbage disposal of my family. I hate wasting food.

Thank you! She’s a barn rescue, and we think part Maine Coon.

I just want to get to and from work alive.

Better the med/science team than a redshirt… they tend to be lifespan-limited.

I really want to try riding this bike.

Stuff like this is also the reason I really want to learn TIG.

For my direct reports, I try very hard to be the opposite of all the traits of all the terrible managers I’ve suffered over the years.

It sounds like you’ve got one of the good ones.

DM sent. With the exception of neat photos of liquid nitrogen, I try not to cross the work and bicycle nerd streams.

This is why I haven’t signed up for Skype a scientist- I just can’t compete with the lizard folks!

When asked what I do I usually just offer a generic response; if I get too detailed I know I’m about 6 seconds away from their eyes glazing over…

Can we please, please, please get one of these on or near Spruce and Pine? Please?

Table For One Please.

Happy to hear this billboard is still up in Vancouver, was a pleasure to work with @visionzerovancouver.ca.
side of a building with a billboard that says smoking tables next to non-smoking tables used to be normal too and picture of child biking beside a truck on painted bike lane

It’s a Philly miracle: headwinds in every damn direction the last few days.

Sit bone width relative to saddle width, saddle side-to-side flatness/roundness, saddle tilt, saddle fore-aft, pressure relief channels, chamois shorts, and chamois butter are all possible solutions.

What a disservice.

Last time I recommended Douglas Adams, but if even that’s too much:

Hyperbole and a Half, Allie Brosh

Interesting. Never seen it, but I think that’s going to have to change. Thanks for the correction. Brazil is in a similar vein, but about an unthinking dystopian bureaucracy.

Tonight’s escape: Brazil.

Tomorrow might be Hitchhiker’s Guide or Office Space.

Huh. I’d hoped they were fixing the fountains, but that’s cool too!

I have a new boss at work. As one of the resident old guys, I’ve been named a part of the research senior leadership team.

Which means every so often I get called to a “Research SLT” meeting and I giggle inside because yeah, I do it for money.

I will never not have a 12 year-old sense of humor.

Sounds distinctly like my two social circles: self- assembling groups of bike nerds and science nerds. Interestingly, the two actually overlap ever so slightly.
