Sometimes I cheat on whiskey with apple brandy. Usually St George apple brandy. This Old-Fashioned is made with that, St Elizabeth Allspice Dram, and Regan’s Orange Bitters. I recommend it. Especially near sunset. Cheers!

This year’s St George Single Malt has arrived! Lot 25 celebrates 25 years of this annual release. My intro to it was Lot 17 and it’s been the annual holiday season bottle in my home ever since. Can’t wait to taste the latest. Cheers!

Well this is legit unusual. A rye whisky from Islay. Bruichladdich took a gamble on this when they distilled it 7 years ago. Proper notes to come but out of the gate I’d say the gamble was worth it. Sláinte!

This new Departure for the Hirsch Selected Whiskeys line is an in-house distilled single malt whiskey made from 100% barley. Proper notes to come. But up front this is sweet and grassy, with rustic milled grain notes, altogether very Northern California. Cheers!

Look at that familiar label closely. Not a barrel proof bourbon but a RYE! Aged 12+ years no less. Proof Hounds will lament the 108 proof. My days of being dazzled by the spectacle of 120+ proof whiskeys are behind me, so this one is right in my sweet spot. Can’t wait to give it a go. Cheers!

I liked the 11y Overholt. I picked a bottle up after it had gone on sale, and it tasted like what I would hope any moderately priced bourbon—not rye—would taste like. Looking forward to seeing what one more year and a scootch higher proof does. Cheers!
