It's tempting to think that simpler letterforms = more legibility. But in my experience, that's not true. Typefaces are design systems too, and they need a certain level of complexity to work well. Here's why:

The N64 architecture was designed by Silicon Graphics if I’m remembering right? I am not sure if the carts could provided a hardware boost in the same way (maybe they did?). I am pretty sure the Gameboy used this kind of concept? Cameras and rumblepacks and stuff.

A fun thing to do is to contact illustrators and pay them to make custom art for you. People are nice and talented.
