She imagines taking Brenha's outstretched fingtertips, pressing her palm to the back of Brenha's hand, and guiding her through signs when words fail.

She imagines stepping into Beauty's Kingdom, and finding there an embrace so affecting that it blinds all those who have not spread out their toes in the earth for the sake of sighing love. She imagines all of the signs in all of the languages she will learn for this woman.

It's already happened; it's happening now.

She lets her woolen blanket fall from her body as she stretches out, uncurling her wrists until she feels herself grounded once more in her soles.

And she follows Brenha's footprints into the mud of the riverbed and beyond, out into the span of the great desert.

Her nose wrinkled as she delivered the accusation, but her grin betrayed her.
Ben’s lips curved, slow and helpless. Something about the whole situation was ridiculous, her in his clothes, tearing apart his kitchen like it belonged to her. And yet the sight lodged deep inside him, like an anchor.
He realized, standing there in the dim light of his kitchen, that he wanted her. Just Rey. In his shirt. In his home. In his life. For as long as he could have her.

A fic I am inordinately proud of

Artist/muse and blind/caretaker dynamic. A 'situationship', but does it grow into more?

“You're both adults. Work it out. Just don’t lose your job over it. Don’t get sloppy.”

“I won’t.”

“And tell me if you need me to run her out of the house.”

“Hey!”

“I mean it.”

“Alright, I will!” he laughed. Mia had abandoned all this — this tightly woven group of friends — to go chasing after money.

They went back in, but the night was winding down. He was feeling high. It was good. The Nachos were good. The cocktails were good. But now he was tired.

“That’s it for me. I have to go.”

“Stay one more round, Ben, then I’ll take you.” Poe said, but then he heard another chair pull out, and the voice he had grown to know, to know well, said:

“That’s it for me too. Thank you all for having me. I’ll take Mr. Solo here, home.”

She’s brave, saying it that way. Gotta give her that.

So, naturally, Kylo dove in.

In the early twilight, he could barely see where the last few sunrays slanted a few feet under the surface, and shone on the pale bodies struggling before him, but he swam towards them, and brought forth his blade to stab at the monstrous creature, beauty and the king’s order be damned.

That got her attention; a cloud of crimson erupted in the waters, She turned to face him, eyes black with fury, and he kicked and crawled under his boat’s keel, to the other side, and, somehow, managed to clear the netting just as it shot up between them.

But not before she reached for him, and raked one sharp claw across his face.
