Congratulations to Manitoba on its new Path to Net Zero strategy. The transition to clean energy offers economic opportunities and greater resilience for communities across the province. This strategy is a good foundation for action plans to come. www.manitoba.ca/asset_librar...

Canada’s national patchwork of industrial carbon pricing regimes is only getting patchier. Provinces like Alberta have weakened systems so much that carbon prices have crashed, reducing incentives for low-carbon projects.

More than half of Canada’s emission cuts will come from shared federal-provincial policy. 📉

Our latest analysis shows just how critical it is for all governments to work together to cut emissions with policy that spurs low-carbon development. ⬇️

Big news: China pledged to cut its greenhouse gas emissions 7-10% by 2035 and increase wind and solar power sixfold from 2020 levels.

That would be like cutting two Canadas’ worth of emissions from the global tally, though still leaving a steep path to net zero. apnews.com/article/clim...

As Canada faces worsening climate-fuelled disasters, it’s also set to miss its 2030 emissions target. Clear policy signals from governments are needed to drive the country back on track. Read more ⬇️ climateinstitute.ca/canada-wont-...
Canada won’t meet its 2030 climate target. Now what?
It's clear that Canada cannot hit its 2030 climate target that it set under the Paris Agreement. Now what?

Look at the climate change policies of all the other countries with which Canada needs to diversify its trade and they point to embracing greater climate action, not tripping after Trump's retrograde agenda.

NEW: Our early estimate of Canada’s national emissions is out and shows progress stalled in 2024.

The country’s 2030 targets are now out of reach, emphasizing the need for a coordinated policy reset with the federal and provincial governments. ⬇️

Very proud of the hard-working @climateinstitute.bsky.social team. The Early Estimate of National Emissions is a key analysis of what's working and what's off track. 2024 results make clear the country needs a new push for climate change progress. Watch for more important CCI research upcoming.

There’s a lot of misinformation about ZEV mandates in Canada.

But ZEV mandates are cost-effective policy and one of the few tools Canada has to cut emissions from the 2nd highest-emitting sector in the country.
