True, it's better than the time we were asked "are you married, or are you friends?"
rleggos.bsky.social
Just got asked if we are from Colorado or Canada in the... Denver airport

Girl I promise you'll still want to do this in five years so stop treating your body like you don't need it to work in five years :)

Cam Skattebo's style of play can best be described as "here for a good time, not a long time," and I respect it if that is the path he has chosen.

IDK I kinda think the varsity jackets you can just buy are stolen valor a little bit?

I'm sure the fact that the lanes are still blocked by construction equipment also helps people want to use them 🙄

As a comm student (major) who was also a CS student (minor) who also worked 20 hours/week, I'm quite sure I can count on one hand the number of readings I actually did for comm. And the number of papers I wrote on media I had not watched was at least two.

I couldn't understand my Calc 3 prof's accent so I stopped going to class. Homework was due weekly on Fridays so I learned enough from the textbook on Thursday nights to complete it. Got an an UNCURVED 84% on the first midterm and then dropped the class.

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.
wrote 20 pages on Faulkner's The Bear four hours before final papers were due on trucker pills and coffee and cigarettes and got an A, fuck you.
You people couldn't hang with real slackers.

Here's something pretty I sewed entirely by hand and something pretty I wove out of yarn I spun entirely by hand 😊

In conclusion:

Shuttle-loom-woven selvedges are so nice! They are beautiful! I reject the idea that they actually contribute to the deterioration in the quality of our clothing. His other points still stand.

Sources: I sew both by hand and machine, historical and modern. I also weave.

This is a seam from a petticoat I sewed for 18th century reenactment.

1. This is the selvedge.
2. This was woven on a projectile loom (you can tell by the small fluffy bits.
3. It will not fray and has not over the years I have worn and washed it.

This is some fabric from my stash that was woven on a projectile loom. The fluffy edge *is the selvedge of the fabric*. This WILL NOT FRAY from this edge if not cut. You can leave this edge raw if you want, it just won't look very nice.

This is a skirt I sewed (by hand) using linen I found at a thrift store. I was THRILLED to find this fabric because it has a selvedge indicative of fabric woven on a shuttle loom. I stitched the seam allowances down to secure them, but I did not need to fold them under to create a nice edge.
rleggos.bsky.social
Shaking a little because I need to be pedantic here and slightly correct the menswear guy. 😅

*All woven fabric* has a selvedge. What @dieworkwear.bsky.social is referring to here is a TYPE of selvedge formed by weaving with, yes, a shuttle and a *continuous weft*

Explanations in thread.

I'll give you some examples.

A hundred years ago, denim was mostly woven on slow shuttle looms, which produced a narrow-width fabric that was finished with a self-edge (selvedge). This fabric was taken straight off the loom and given to factories.

I was laser-focused on meetings for the last 90 minutes and feel like I just crawled out of an underground bunker reading my timeline rn

Yeah so I got my first sports photography opportunity by dressing as a giant anthropomorphic tub of mayonnaise and posting it on Twitter.
