Just published, a land-mark paper by Annemarie Eckes-Shephard et al.! It assesses the performance of a new generation of Demography-enabled Dynamic Global Vegetation (D-DGVMs), that attempt to simulate the changing size and age structure of trees in forests.

Our paper is now published! A inter-model evaluation at a variety of forest biomes of nine "state of the art" demographic vegetation models. Well done @annemarie-es.bsky.social and @tompugh.bsky.social for leading this endeavour!

Demography, dynamics and data: building confidence for simulating changes in the world's forests
Vegetation demographic models (VDMs) are advanced tools for simulating forest responses to climate and land-use changes, and are essential for projecting carbon cycling and large-scale forest manage.....

Energy is key to defeating Russia.
The EU still imports Russian gas, spending >20 billion a year.
The UK imports similar amounts, mainly from mainland Europe
Stronger UK climate policy will help the EU ditch Russian gas.

Climate change could overwhelm our sewers – here’s how green infrastructure could help
Climate change could overwhelm our sewers – here’s how green infrastructure could help
Cities need to find new ways to handle rainwater, especially in the face of climate change. Green infrastructure offers a way to tackle this challenge.

In addition to studying ocean transport, particle tracking models can be used for fun! Animation made using the model PyLag (github.com/pmlmodelling...), which I coded while at @plymouthmarine.bsky.social, and surface ocean currents from CMEMS (Product: GLOBAL_REANALYSIS_PHY_001_031). Enjoy!

Celebrating the wonderful worm art (and other benthic beasties) or our Convex Seascape Survey 😍 Paint made from the same mud as our experiments on benthic carbon fluxes. Super cool.

We have officially advised our university to ditch carbon offsets – and focus on cutting emissions
Your organisation should probably ditch offsets too.
