Came into JFK airport a week or two ago. There were no customs agents anywhere, at all. Customs inspection was closed. Now I know why. They all had been sent to Minnesota.

I’ve missed my family’s Charleston accent… it has long faded away in that city. So when my father died, I was arranging his burial in his hometown outside Charleston, and sexton of the church spoke to me with an ancient Charleston drawl — well, I recorded the conversation.

By the end of my life, there may be no one left who speaks like my father outside the hollers and the one-horse towns.

Holy shit - again, because of the lies and use of FBI / DOJ to obstruct (in writing, we have it) and this document alone -

Send em all to jail, or the appropriate for reason...

Bet we see more and more - if anything they have proven - it's horrible incompetence.

This doesn’t seem particularly reasonable. AI may be a creative shortcut, but it’s not necessarily inaccurate. In most cases, it’s a time-saving tool.
I don’t know if anyone else notices or cares, but when I see a presentation in which the speaker uses obviously generated-AI images to illustrate their slides, it makes me immediately less confident in whatever other content they’re presenting.

You hear all the apoplectic handwaving by people who say they’re going to flee New York because a socialist just got elected? That, in reverse, is how I feel about Texas and Tennessee. If they want to be a right wing paradise, they can do so without my tourist dollars.

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

I read about insurgencies on both left and right who feel that their moment has come to take over their parties because people are unhappy with current leadership.

But being unhappy with current leadership doesn’t translate into a hunger for something more radical. They want better moderates.

One of the things that saddens me the most is how quickly and easily law-enforcement in this country adopted authoritarian tactics, not just towards immigrants, but towards citizens as well. It really shows how thin the veneer of civilization is.
