Look. Zohran Mamdani owes nothing to anyone but his contituents in NYC. I know you're mad he had a smiley meeting with Trump. But you know what? Because he went in and smiled and patted that fatuous asshole on the head, New York won't lose federal money, and ICE will leave the city alone.

Splitting hairs on which academic definition of fascism we’re going by today is pretty fucking embarrassing when there are masked goons pulling people off the streets, the President is marshalling the DOJ to target people he dislikes, and conducting extrajudicial killing in international waters.

Uh, suppression of dissent and extermination of all pluralist alternatives, and mass mobilization through a single party state, among other important things
Tom is focused here on just one trait of a fascist state - suppression of dissent - ignoring other traits such as media capture, ultranationalism, use of state violence to quash opposition, etc. Ok, the state is not fully fascist yet, but you can’t argue we’re not headed that way.
