Having a wonderful time with Stephen Rinker at BBC Philharmonic HQ mixing my TECHNO-UTOPIA which we recorded in July. Some rarely-seen) instrument tracks in this piece including "stacco", "ROLI" and "big bit of wood". Steve is a genius - it sounds brilliant

RPS Composer @robertlaidlow.bsky.social's cosmic tone poem 'Exoplanets' will receive its first performance by the @lporchestra.bsky.social on 29 November at @southbankcentre.bsky.social. A collaboration with astrophysicists, Robert translates their inspiring research into musical ideas.

This amazingly high quality music festival is just up the road from me. Well worth a visit for the astonishingly beautiful venue alone let alone the fantastic music. And if you come on the right day you'll find me manning the bar 😊

My new piece "Exoplanets" for @lporchestra.bsky.social may not have 6000 movements but I can promise I was aiming for some out of this world music on 29th November at the Royal festival hall 😊 see you there?

We've reached 6,000 confirmed exoplanets! I talked with @aussiastronomer.bsky.social about where things go from here. (A great graphic by @unamandita.bsky.social visualizes the amazing jumps in planet finds since the first ones were confirmed in the 1990s.)

Loved working with Zubin Kanga, Jack Sheen and the BBC Philharmonic last week on TECHNO-UTOPIA - concerto for piano, synths and embedded AI instruments. Look forward to sharing the recording soon. The orchestra were such a nice bunch 😍

I asked for a large sheet of metal for this piece but this really takes the biscuit
robertlaidlow.bsky.social
Had such a fun time running through the solo part for TECHNO-UTOPIA with Zubin Kanga today. Can you tell I listened to prog rock as a teenager

It's called the stacco, developed by my friend Nicola Privato at the Intelligent Instruments Lab. It controls a set of RAVE models we trained on BBC radio recordings made by the Philharmonic. It's very performable which I like while still keeping the fun and volatility of machine learning

Zubin will be performing on piano, synths, and new intelligent instruments which navigate orchestral archives. We are really excited to bring this to your eardrums in July (Manchester conducted by Jack Sheen) and 2026 (Berlin), and on BBC Radio 3!

Excited to announce “TECHNO-UTOPIA”, my new concerto for Zubin Kanga commissioned by the BBC Philharmonic and Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra. TECHNO-UTOPIA explores memory, magic, ruthless algorithms, and what makes music more than just data.
