I remember really enjoying The Pool when it came out, but it has been a long time since I’ve seen it. I need to give it a rewatch to see if it still holds up. (The “blade in the slide tunnel” they did here was taken to the next level in 2019’s Aquaslash.)

My new blog is up on Rue Morgue. I finally caught up with the author of the Halloween novelization, Richard Curtis! (Did you know a fully illustrated version of the novel was rereleased a couple years ago? I didn’t either!)
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: The Curious Case Of The "HALLOWEEN" Novelization – A Conversation With Author Richard Curtis - Rue Morgue
Published months after the release of John Carpenter's groundbreaking film, the 1979 novelization expanded Michael Myers' backstory with Celtic folklore.

Two different vibes that would make an enjoyable double feature.
I have to ask- do you watch the movies as they play or do you read between reels?
I have to find this now!
There are quite a few, but Eviltown is throwing me off. I’m not familiar with that one.
I was on this episode! I had so much fun! Thank you, Hysterical Continues!!!

Film producer Sam Sherman passed away on Monday. Sam was great. He called me out of the blue one day, “Rob Freese? This is Sam Sherman, president of I-IP.” I always loved talking to him. I was on the editorial team who helped put his book, “When Dracula Met Frankenstein” together. Rest now, sir.
“Why is my back wet?”
“Rob, what exactly do you do at the library?” Well, I show awesome movies and remind people how much fun you can have going to movies. I also concoct cheap gimmicks for the movies I show. Tomorrow is Dana Cannon’s Moving Violations scratch off game. 27% accurate- if you drive a puppet stage.
Olivia/Prozzie is another horror movie about the London Bridge in Arizona. From Ulli Lommel.
That’s a great review!
Happy belated bloody birthday! Here’s to 27 more!
I just showed this at my library last night. Everyone really enjoyed it.

Two months from today, Santa will arrive before Halloween. Silent Night, Deadly Night: The Official Novelization of the Original Movie is coming to paperback from Titan Books on October 21, and preorders are now open from your favorite book retailers. This year, Naughty season starts early.
It’s an online watch party. We’ll talk about and introduce each film, everyone watches, then come back for the second feature and do the same. (Drive-in Asylum is actually a very cool old school zine that Bill has been publishing for years. I’ve been lucky to contribute a time or two.)
I’m joining Bill Van Ryn and Sam Panico tonight for this slasher double feature!
Just a reminder: The All-Night Video Guide: Slashers 70’s & 80’s is available from Amazon (paperback, Kindle & Kindle Unlimited). Signed copies available from Makeflix.com. If you’re in the Huntsville, AL area you can pick up a signed copy from Big Mix Video.
I don’t tend to post about flicks I snag for my collection, but I picked up this set for practically nothing. (A couple are still sealed.) I recently learned about this series from my favorite slasher movie podcast, The Hysteria Continues. Funny how life works sometimes. Matron, please!
I had an awesome time talking to Justin, Erik, Joseph and Nathan today about Drive-in Massacre for an upcoming episode The Hysteria Continues! podcast. Now for something a little less slashery.
I first rented it expecting something along the lines of Friday the 13th, but it wasn’t a “fun” slasher. Crassly exploitative, it’s actually smarter than most run of the mill slashers. The trio of gal pals are wonderful and the cretin brothers put the “pathetic” in sympathetic. Queenie lives!!!
