there are so many legitimate things to criticize big tech or AI for and people always manage to find an angle like "they make hardware purchase contracts more than six weeks in advance" and present it like it's the conspiracy of the century

A lot of LLM writing style comes from their later training, in which they answer questions that are graded by rubrics or human raters. This incentives them to fish for marks like a student would, writing key points in bold to ensure a checked-out grader doesn't miss them. They're exam-optimized.

I think retrospective views of the impact of social media on society will be positive. Like yeah it dredged up all of human misery and we all bathed in it for two decades but that will eventually create the impetus to fix things.
