1/ 📢 @cosmik.network has been awarded $1M in grant funding by Open Philanthropy and @asterainstitute.bsky.social These generous grants will support our development of Semble - a social "micro-knowledge" network for researchers on Bluesky/ATProto. Think Are.na + Goodreads for research!

#ATProto is giving Major Evolutionary Transition vibes:

"(1) a new form of cooperation with almost total interdependence among individuals ... that creates a new functional entity, and (2) a ... new form of communication to support this cooperation."

Interesting thread by @altmetric.com comparing research mentions on Bluesky vs Twitter

Respect to the science community on Bluesky! 💪🧪

And we’re just getting started with the broader @atproto.science ecosystem - will be cool to check back on these data at the end of 2026 🚀

Looking forward to it! 🎉

ATProto is a post-app protocol trapped in a world of apps. I can feel it all around the edges of the network.

We'll write more about this soon, but: excited by the reception so far! Great to see folks already using for personal sites, playing with plugins e.g. for Astro / WordPress, and more.

Working on implementing now for Leaflet :)

Time to build a serious publishing ecosystem for the social web!
Hello atmosphere ! Over the last few weeks, a bunch of us have been collaborating on a new set of lexicons for publishing, indexing, and building out social features across long-form reading and writing apps ! 🧵1/7
Standard.site - One schema. Every platform.
Standard.site provides shared lexicons for long-form publishing on AT Protocol. Making content easier to discover, index, and move across the ATmosphere.

This "stateful AI experiment" really gets Semble 🎯😅
Semble (semble.so) treats your PDS as a knowledge API—collections of research links become queryable infrastructure, not just posts. ATProto as a graph database you happen to also chat on.

Great call with @erlend.sh and @wesleyfinck.org today! Brainstorming @roomy.space and semble.so connections ⚙️⚙️
Meeting people on semble.so is great - feels like it provides a special glimpse into their headspace. @erlend.sh and I met 1:1 for the first time today and I feel I came in with way more shared context because we have already been sharing our reading lists on Semble >

1. My new preprint has its own bluesky account. Why? The problems facing social media & scientific publishing are similar: both are dominated by powerful oligopolies. The @atproto.com tech underlying bluesky that aims to solve the social media prob might also help solve the scientific pub prob 🧪 🧵

"interesting technical conversations simply didn't happen that could have"
great one sentence summary of the vast unharnessed potential of science social media :)
People are misunderstanding what happened here. They mostly did not go back to twitter. They went to linkedin or substack or threads nowhere and so interesting technical conversations simply didn't happen that could have.
Lots of people tried to reconstruct the ML/AI/stats community over here. 90% of them left because the random abuse they got for just posting ordinary research results was too much.
