1/ 📢 @cosmik.network has been awarded $1M in grant funding by Open Philanthropy and @asterainstitute.bsky.social These generous grants will support our development of Semble - a social "micro-knowledge" network for researchers on Bluesky/ATProto. Think Are.na + Goodreads for research!

I can't even explain why I like @leaflet.pub so much but I really do, and now it's open source (on an open source open sourcing tool) and man that is cool

Bluesky/ATProto could be a great way to implement this and to address the ecosystem adoption challenge (esp once they support private data on PDSes @bmann.ca ) 2/

V interesting twist on MCP! “user data is often fragmented across services and locked into specific providers, reinforcing user lock-in” - enter Human Context Protocol (HCP): “user-owned repositories of preferences designed for active, reflective control and consent-based sharing.” 1/

The #COLM2025 workshop on NLP4Democracy is starting now! Join us in 520E.

I’ll be speaking at 10:15am with @ysiglidis.bsky.social about work with @iaugenstein.bsky.social and @serge.belongie.com focused on tracking collective narratives on social media.
A slide that reads “NLP and all the interesting and weird ways it intersects with processes and values that comprise democracy”

Emilia @thisismissem.social is an independent developer working on open protocols like ActivityPub and OAuth.

She recently got some important OAuth work a step closer to approval at the IETF.

So you might know my work, to support me doing that I need about €60-70k per year.

Year to date, I've received €17,150 in financial support from the community, and €11,400 from NLNet grants. So a total of €28,550.

Add in whatever freelance work I've been able to pick up and it maybe bumps to €36k

A Monday morning reminder to support @blackskyweb.xyz, @transrights.northsky.social, @slices.network, and anyone else building AppViews/AppView infra. We need redundant spaces yesterday, and these folks are doing the legwork to make it happen.

ATProto has huge potential for supporting new ways of doing science, but to get there we need discussion & coordination spaces - we opened a new Discourse space for ATProto x Science at discourse.atprotocol.community/c/atproto-sc... 🧪

“there's a way in which the whole history of the United States has gone in a somewhat psychopathic direction”
The topic and its implications are mind-blowing and do not get nearly enough attention. We must understand how psychopathy is incentivized by current systems in order to build better ones

@danabra.mov inspired me to get GraphQL working with @slices.network aaaand it's pretty rad. Slices will generate query interfaces based on your Slices' lexicon and you can join on did/ref/uri. Here's a remix on Dan's teal demo using the entire @teal.fm dataset. slices-teal-relay.bigmoves.deno.net

What stage capitalism is it when the state labels anti-capitalism views as indicators of terrorism?
pridewasariot.bsky.social
They don’t have enough officers to track every person who meets this criteria. The NSPM-7 might allow for extra judicial surveillance and spying on so-called “Leftists”, but just like in Portland, it will exhaust millions in resources for very little results.

Keep fighting, siblings.
The Trump administration isn't only targeting organizations or groups but even individuals and
"entities" whom NSPM-7 says can be identified by any of the following "indicia" (indicators) of violence:
• anti-Americanism,
• anti-capitalism,
• anti-Christianity,
• support for the overthrow of the United States
Government,
• extremism on migration,
• extremism on race,
• extremism on gender
• hostility towards those who hold traditional
American views on family,
• hostility towards those who hold traditional
American views on religion, and
• hostility towards those who hold traditional
American views on morality.
"The United States requires a national strategy to investigate and disrupt networks, entities, and organizations that foment political violence so that law enforcement can intervene in criminal conspiracies before they result in violent political acts," the directive states (emphasis mine).
