A shared linguistic landscape is vital, especially in conflict areas, where it can help to reduce the tribal inclination towards 'othering'. I was really happy to collaborate with Lissan on this article and help bring it to fruition!

A thought: Binary "black and white" thinking is uncluttered and therefore 'refreshingly' unrestrained and liberating. And therefore popular. Unfortunately, it doesn't solve real-life problems because the world is actually almost never simple, either to comprehend or describe.

As with Ford's pardon of Nixon, such acts don't by themselves 'heal the rifts' or propel a society out of polarization. They can, however, as we've seen, weaken the rule of law and embolden the next would-be authoritarian.
