Officially moth-obsessed, also easily distracted by birds, butterflies, flies, wasps and spiders. Musically devoted to an (un)holy trinity of Bruce Springsteen, Nick Cave and Leonard Cohen.

The Isochnus mine which I collected on 5/10 has produced an adult, allowing identification as I. sequensi. There are some records of this species to N & E of me, but none from the B’ham area, though a beetle this small is easily overlooked. @vc28wildlife.bsky.social @ecorecord.bsky.social
Isochnus sequensi, identified by its yellow fore and mid femora. It measures about 2mm in length. The mine showing the exit hole

This Feathered Thorn has complete confidence in its camouflage as a dead leaf, it’s been sitting on the patio all day! #teammoth

Wonder if the good weather this year has helped this species expand so far so quickly?

They are very resistant to pollution, I imagine that’s why (and why they are known as ‘London Planes’)

Not a lot of Plane trees round here so a bit of a novelty!

Extremely envious, don’t seem to be able to get this species in my garden…
ruthnewby.bsky.social
Glad you finally got one! And I’ve only had Yellow-line Quaker once in my garden.

Thanks Debbie, things are definitely looking up this morning.
ruthnewby.bsky.social
Could it have hitched a ride on something?

Stinkhorn looks a lot more ‘suggestive’ and also is very smelly!

The moth gods brought me a Cappuccino this morning, I thought that was nice of them ☕️ Also Feathered Thorn NFY, 3 Barred Sallow, 7 (!) R-g Carpet and the obligatory Merveille de Jour. And the dog made it through the night with no ‘accidents’. #teammoth @pmandrews1973.bsky.social
Green-brindled Crescent, f. capucina aka ‘Capuccino’ Feathered Thorn Barred Sallow, the freshest of the three in the trap Merveille de Jour

Both fungi are Shaggy Inkcap/Lawyers Cap in the early (RH) and late (LH) stages.

Nice, not seen that one before.
ruthnewby.bsky.social
Hate to say it, but there’s already one in my trap 😉
ruthnewby.bsky.social
Yes, you guessed correctly.

He seems to be in the mend, for now at least (he is 16 yrs old & has a lot of medical issues but has had tummy trouble & stopped eating on Wednesday which resulted in a night on IV drip at the vet’s). Thank goodness for Petplan…
