I like wildlife, and wildlife gardening in particular. I want to know what comes to my garden during the day and at night (moths, V61). Amateur photographer. South-East Yorkshire, UK.
These are nos. 37-54. I'm still making my way through the rest. I'll never have this many NFG micros again, which I'm pretty pleased about. However, I should have sorted these after taking pictures of them. Names are included in the alt-text. #teammoth

Another 18 NFG micros. #teammoth

BeFunky (www.befunky.com) is my favourite collage maker tool that I've been experimenting with lately. It limits the templates you can use, but it has what I'm looking for. The website allows me to edit a photo after placing it in a square, unlike many apps.

These are my first eighteen NFG micromoths of the year. It's taking me a while to sort through the pictures because I keep getting distracted by the #moths, which I haven't looked at since I took them. I've added what I believe to be their names to the alt-text. #teammoth

What a disaster! It's time to begin organising the NFG micro-moths I've had this year. And I already feel like I should start it tomorrow! 😅 #teammoth

Although I've had an amazing year mothing, there have been a few #moths that I wish I could have seen again. This Black Arches, for example. I took this shot in 2024. It will probably feel like a brand-new moth if I ever see one again. #teammoth

They are such drama queens! This year, I've enjoyed taking pictures of #moths playing dead. They differ from the more traditional depictions of moths. I was most surprised by the Poplar Hawk-moth because I didn't think he had a flair for the dramatic. #teammoth #dramaqueenmoth #macromonday

For #MothFaceFriday, here's a picture of a Silver Y from the summer, when I was able to walk through my garden at night and see them nectaring. #teammoth

Well, the trap's out, and it's only 1.3°C. After a few days off, I have to trap again, even though I'm not at all confident. #teammoth

On a more positive note, I saw a lovely male bullfinch in my garden today. That was always a bogey bird of mine. I spotted only female ones.

Well, that's this year's NFG macros (nos. 41-60) almost completed. I'll postpone the final few until the end of the year. You never know, I might be able to add a December Moth to them. 😅 #teammoth

Twenty more NFG macro-moths (nos. 21–40). I was able to locate the Least Black Arches that ought to have been in the previous collage. It was put in a micro-moth folder by someone. 🙄 I wonder where all these #moths were hiding last year. #teammoth

I decided to follow the trend and make a collage of this year's first twenty NFG macromoths. I should have included a Least Black Arches, but I couldn't find the shot, so I changed it to an Obscure Wainscot (NFG, no. 21). I'll complete the macros before going on to the micromoths. #teammoth

A Merveille du Jour from a bit ago. It's time to start searching for unused photos to share. #teammoth

It was inevitable, I guess. It was minus 1.3°C when I went outside this morning. According to the forecast, there won't be any better temperatures in the near future, so my mothing year might be over. But FOMO will get to me in a few days, and I'll probably give in and see Wogan once more. #teammoth

With the exception of LBAMs, the moth population in the area where I live seems to have completely disappeared. Even though it's only 3.3°C outside, I've foolishly lit up tonight. To be honest, I'm beginning to question whether a December Moth is truly worth the effort. #teammoth

I really like the "whatever the weather, put the trap out" mentality because you never know what might turn up. I never gave Musotima nitidalis NFG much thought. After looking at pictures of this moth this morning, I'd like to trap a fresh one. #teammoth

This morning there weren't many #moths in the trap. It'd been raining heavily again. I think I'll be stuck in the greenhouse for a while based on the weather forecast. Fortunately, I did get a new moth for the garden. I won't name it just yet, though, 'cos of my gaffe from yesterday. 😅 #teammoth

A recently trapped Satellite for #MothFaceFriday. #teammoth

I think this is the best Delicate I've seen this year. The others have all been worn. #teammoth

I have a Large Yellow Underwing in my greenhouse, so that takes care of Wogan. #teammoth

This morning, I mistook a moth for a Gem because its wings were closed, but it was actually a Winter Moth. That's what happens when I'm half asleep and looking at #moths by torchlight. This moth is new to my garden, so I'm relieved it wasn't a Gem. #teammoth

A Scarce Umber NFY from the trap this morning. #teammoth
November 13, 2025 at 5:29 PM
I'm beginning to realise that bad weather doesn't always translate into zero #moths. This morning was dominated by migrant moths, including White-points, Diamond-backs, a Delicate, and what I think is a Gem (it won't open its wings for me!). There was also a Scarce Umber NFY. #teammoth

For a short while, he believed that I was stupid enough to fall for his antics. Since the leaf is vertical in the first picture, he's clinging on with one leg. 🙄

I naturally anticipated a Wogan when I looked in the trap this morning because it was lashing it down until about 1 am, and there were winds of about 22 mph. But no, I was able to capture my first Satellite of the year. #teammoth

The trap was tragic this morning, as was to be expected, most likely as a result of the heavy rain that appears to be continuing for some time. But regardless of the weather, I'll keep on trapping. Fortunately, Wogan was absent thanks to a White-point and some LBAMs. #teammoth
