Welcome to the 'Railway Work, Life & Death' project Bluesky account!

Currently over 117,000 cases, with more to come.

Posed 1930s accident prevention photo, showing a worker standing between tracks, about to be hit by a steam train approaching unseen from behind. Posed 1920s safety photo, showing a driver near the front of a steam loco as it was moving, warning of the dangers of leaving the cab whilst the engine was travelling. Posed 1920s safety photo showing a worker having stumbled and fallen in front of a train, as he tried to cross the line. Infographic showing the number of workers killed and injured on Britain and Ireland's railways and whose accidents were investigated, between 1911 and 1915. This was the first run of data we produced, of around 4000 cases, now hugely expanded.

I'm sure it will be, but hoping the gallery of films will be shared after the events!

V pleased that Havant Local History Group chair & Portsmouth Area Railway Pasts project member, Neil Spurgeon, is giving a talk tonight in Hambledon, about one of 'our' railway workers - Trayton Griffin.

Great to share the research, especially where the Griffin family originated from!

Cons: I know bugger all about railway safety

Pros: the accident reports would be *epic*
The Rail Accident Investigation Branch say "We're recruiting Inspectors of Rail Accidents. We're looking for people who are interested in making a significant contribution to railway safety in the United Kingdom to join our team."

The years go by so fast, but for some the memories of 05/10/99 will always be raw. It was on that day two trains collided at Ladbroke Grove, with the loss of 31 lives.

The accident spurred work on train protection systems. The work goes on, as this post explains:
