Greetings from other websites!

I guess since wandering moots are I might as well introduce myself. My name is Ryan, and my interests - and 85% of my posts - are pop culture news/history in general with a focus on animation, comic strips, and Muppets.

Sometimes I draw. More often I make bad jokes.

SNK’s first original game, Yosaku (which is believed to no longer exist), is also believed to be the first video game to use a licensed song. It was inspired by a Japanese song about a woodcutter which appears in the game properly licensed by JASRAC (the Japanese equivalent to ASCAP/BMI).

Since the beginning of time, mankind has yearned to destroy the sun.
A 25-person startup is developing technology to block the sun and turn down the planet’s thermostat.

The stakes are huge — and the company and its critics say regulations need to catch up.

Despite their shared corporate ownership, TCM has somehow never done a tribute to Hanna-Barbera’s theatrical output. That will change as the network devotes two nights to the studio in December: animationscoop.com/two-night-tc...

Okay, but if at some point James Bond isn’t in a casino playing a high-stakes game of Othello against the bad guy I don’t even know why they went with that title

I think a lot about Jaime Weinman’s observation in ANVILS, MALLETS, AND DYNAMITE that Foghorn Leghorn is an anomaly in that he is the only WB character who gets laughs by SAYING funny things rather than DOING funny things which is probably why he’s perfectly suited for memes like this
"6-7"?! Boy I say boy you gen alpha kids cant be doin' that! Your signifiers need signs boy! You've laid a rhetorical claim to an empty space son! You're creatin' a nihilistic dialectic! Your broccoli hairs obfuscatin' some much needed communication! Find some MEANIN', kid!

Elmo officially became a permanent Sesame Street cast member 40 years ago this week. He was, depending on your age, the most loved or most hated Muppet, but viral reaction to his feud with Rocco and “How is everybody doing?” tweet only proved his appeal. archive.ph/GpYAg

I was just reading an interview with Sonia Manzano where she discussed how she knew it was time to retire because she was the only remaining cast member who worked alongside Jim Henson.

Paradoxically, Sesame Street is immortal yet not immune to the ravages of time.
A lot of emotions tied up in seeing the familiar faces (& knowing some of the Muppet performers) on the SESAME STREET float from the 1982 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (plus a quick, & awkward, SPIDER-MAN & HIS AMAZING FRIENDS cameo at the top)...

This deflated Kermit balloon was the inspiration for an art piece recently displayed in Paris called “Kermit the Frog, Even”.

Designer Alex Da Corte says he was inspired by a photo of the balloon passing a storefront labeled FATHER AND SON and how, in a way, Kermit was Jim Henson’s son.

Warner Bros. is trying to turn December 12 into an annual celebration of “Elf” solely on the basis that “twelfth” has E-L-F in it. They’re trying to astroturf their own May the 4th and Mar10 Day, both of which were fan celebrations embraced by the corporate overlords.

Roger Langridge, whose Muppet Show comic book did a great job capturing the spirit of the original show, is headed back to the characters as Dynamite’s February solicitations include “The Muppets Noir”, in which a blow to the head convinces Kermit he is a hard-boiled detective.
