#OnThisDay in 1918 Captain James Arthur Jones, 10th Bn, South Wales Borderers, was killed in action in France. He was one of 200 battalion casualties during the Battle of Villers Outreaux. Capt. Jones is buried in Guizancourt Farm Cemetery, Aisne, France. He was 28 years old. #WW1 #FirstWorldWar
#NationalPoetryDay here’s a very moving poem from the remembrance card of 22515 Company Sergeant Major Henry Hopkins of the 13th Battalion, Welsh Regiment. Coy Sgt Maj Hopkins was killed in action on May 18th, 1916, at Festubert, France. He is buried in Rue-Du-Bacquerot Graveyard, Laventie. #WW1

#FlashbackFriday to 1914. Men of the 11th Bn, Welsh Regiment, (Cardiff Pals), wearing their privately purchased brown uniforms, earning them the nickname ‘chocolate soldiers’. They bought it at Jotham’s Ltd in Cardiff and, in the early days, wore Bakelite ‘Cardiff Commercial Battalion’ cap badges.
#OnThisDay in 1944 4080467 Pte Wilfred Lewis Green, 3rd Bn, Mons Reg, died of wounds in Holland. Wilfred, from Mountain Ash, had fought in the Battle of Normandy and in Belgium before arriving in Holland. He is buried at Mierlo War Cemetery, in the Netherlands. He was 28 years old. #WW2 #OTD

#FlashbackFriday to 1942 in Burma. Here is the ‘Health Memoranda’ issued to all soldiers serving in the Pacific. This one belonged to 3914137 Pte C Proll of the 6th Battalion, South Wales Borderers, and is packed full of useful information for surviving in the tropics!

#OnThisDay in 1918 19341 Cpl Evan Lewis Morgan, 11th Battalion, Welsh Regiment, was killed in action during the Third Battle of Doiran on the Macedonian Front. Col Morgan, from Tonyrefail in Wales, is buried at Doiran Military Cemetery. He was 26 years old.

#BlackandWhiteWednesday, here’s a pic of the officers’ mess of the 1st Battalion, Welch Regiment during the battle of Crete in 1941. The strategically important island was lost to the Germans, despite heavy losses, after they mounted the first major parachute attack of #WW2.
#OnThisDay in 1914, 7753 L/Cpl William Fuller of the 2nd Bn, Welsh Regiment earned the Victoria Cross for extraordinary bravery. Under heavy fire, he carried a mortally wounded officer 100 yards to safety and dressed his wounds.

#FlashbackFriday - the 6th Bn, SWB, during the battle for the Mayu Tunnels, Burma 1944. They were a key stronghold—packed with ammunition & fiercely guarded by the Japanese. After days of heavy fighting, the battalion broke through with a Sherman tank… setting off some spectacular explosions!
