Some preliminary snowfall totals across the Maritimes from Wednesday morning to Thursday morning.
Additional snowfall of 5-10 cm possible along the Northumberland Shore today and right into Friday morning for northern Cape Breton. More on that on CBC radio and TV this afternoon/evening.

Prepare for delays Wed–Thu as an Alberta clipper brings more snow. NS: 10–20 cm (highest along the Atlantic coast, Northumberland Shore & Cape Breton).
Heavy, wet snow near 0°C = greasy roads, possible outages.

More snow on the way!
An Alberta Clipper brings shovelable snow mid-week.
Snow spreads in west to east Wednesday with a slow/snowy afternoon-evening commute. Snow tapers overnight for most, lingers into Thursday in the east.
10–20 cm for Nova Scotia with 5–10 cm, southern NB.

Great view of the Maritimes and Gulf of St. Lawrence today!
The ice coverage in the Gulf is noteworthy, as it's estimated to be near 23%.
While that is still shy of the 30 year normal, this is the highest ice coverage in the Gulf (at this point of the season) since 2020.

It may be hard to believe, but January finished near to slight above average for most of the region.
The month was full of storms and temperature swings - starting cold, before turning really mild and then finishing with another Arctic airmass.

Incredible gradient in Halifax area thanks to the intense snow band that set up over SE Halifax county on Sunday night.
Generally, the heaviest amounts fell across the eastern shore and into Cape Breton, closest to the storm track.

Do you remember the Groundhog Day Gale of 1976?
One of the strongest storms on record to hit the Maritimes rolled in 50 years ago today.
The storm brought hurricane force winds and a storm surge that caused widespread damage.

Cape Breton & the Northumberland Shore face heavy snow (20–30+ cm), whiteouts, and gusts 70–80+ km/h.
Tough forecast for Halifax and up the 102 to Truro, in the sharp gradient zone (10–20 cm). Snow tapers in northwest

Updated Forecast for Nova Scotia Nor'easter.
Guidance is shifting east with the track of the storm, bringing heaviest snowfall to eastern areas & Cape Breton.
Despite the shift, still expecting very gusty winds with blowing and drifting snow.

Some uncertainty remains with the Sunday–Monday storm. Canadian models trend offshore, U.S. guidance wobbles, while the European model has been most consistent—and snowiest—for the Maritimes.
A significant snowfall still looks increasingly likely for much of NS. Stay tuned.

Totals Map - Sunday Eve to Tuesday AM
No big surprises, just a lot of shoveling, especially northern Nova Scotia where some picked up nearly 40 cm of fresh snow!
Blowing and drifting has been a big issue and will continue to be a factor into Wednesday, especially for open and exposed areas.

Long duration snowstorm on the way for the Maritimes.

Expect delays, cancellations and travel impacts for Monday morning, with the clean up continuing throughout Monday afternoon. Snow will be wet and dense, making it heavier to clear and increasing the possibility of some power outages

A little late... but here are the final numbers for December 2025.
The headline is, December monthly temperatures were below normal for the first time in 7-8 years for most locations in the Maritimes (Dec 2019-2018).
Precipitation finished near to below average for the region as drought continues.

2025 was the third-highest year... and none were due to hurricanes (no hurricanes hit the U.S. last year for the first time since 2015).

**Five** events were caused by hail. Yikes.

First Monday after the holidays... a good time to share some good news.
Today was the LATEST the sun will rise & morning light recovery mode begins Tuesday.
In a month we're back to 10 hours of daylight.
March 7th is the final day before daylight savings begins.
June 21st is the start of Summer.
