Finally played Crisps! by @shreesh.bsky.social and art by @saibep.bsky.social. A real treat at the end of the week. “A cute little game” says Rachel.

The surrounding players bet on whether the attempt will be high or low, while verbally guiding the crane player.🤏🏗️

"Yubi-Kan Crane Game Championship" will be released at this autumn’s Game Market.
The player acting as the crane closes their eyes and tries to grab exactly the designated number of cards using only the specified fingers.

New preorders from New Mill coming on Wednesday, October 1! I've gone into some detail about the four new games over the last 4 days, and this is the final one!

Yonkai no Yokai is a climbing/shedding game I designed, with art by the amazing @saibep.bsky.social.

I’ve been self-publishing traditional card game decks every year for the past four years. You can play them with regular playing cards too, but my original decks have points and strengths printed on the cards, which makes the games easier and more fun.

There are around eight different games you can play with this deck, including trick-taking games and ones kind of like Hanafuda.

The company that used to make the deck went out of business.

Right now, I’m looking for a special deck called Ten-chi-hai. It was only played in Taiwan back in the 1980s. The deck has two suits, Heaven and Earth, and each of those is split into three:

Heaven: Moon, Sun, Stars

Earth: Pine, Bamboo, Plum

The next batch of New Mill preorders are set to launch a week from tomorrow. It feels so soon after I sent out the July preorders, but that was because I delayed a month due to those pesky tariff issues. However, for scheduling reasons, I need to still launch Oct. 1.

So...get hyped!

Seems like some pre-release copies of “3 Witches” are in the wild. (I don’t have a copy yet.)

Enjoy the pics. I adore @saibep.bsky.social’s darker, gothic art. See alt text for details.
Hand showing cards from all 5 suits.
5 suits in an 18-card game‽ crazy! I know!
I love that we associated each rank with a body part, so when you play cards you can say
Wing of Bat!
Heart of Dragon!
Tongue of Owl!
Hair of Wolf!
or the classic
Eye of Newt!!! I know a few folks who will dig these victory tokens. Yeah, the skull/king thing is Hamlet while the 3 witches are from Macbeth, but I think of them as all being part of the Shakespeare Cinematic Universe (SCU). This shows part of the very intentional asymmetrical distribution of ranks among the suits. Each of the 5 suits has only 3 or 4 cards with ranks ranging from 1 to 7.
