It's *the* "cult" movie my dad sat me in front of when it popped up on cable in the 1990s, and it rewired part of my brain then & there. A film so grimy and lived-in that when I bought the Criterion blu-ray when it came out he mused that y'know, maybe it's not supposed to look *that* nice.

Home video recording tech did not exist until 1976. Broadcast masters were thought to be destroyed. No recording would have existed, period. *THAT* is lost media.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: every movie that has 2 or more versions that have been in the public eye needs all those versions available on disc or streaming. Like the Blade Runner example -- the set with ALL the diferent cuts on blu-ray? Gold standard. Do that for everything.

I mean, Blade Runner's variants only exist because there's a commercial value in catering to the people who don't want Harrison Ford to be a Replicant-- weighed against the wishes of Ridley Scott himself, if you had to pick one and only one to preserve, there really isn't much contest.

Was just thinking about this again and remembered out of the blue that the English voice actress for Lelouch's beloved sister Nunnally is none other than Rebecca Forstadt, Robotech's Lynn Minmei.
1. It's funny, Lelouch's downplaying of Minmay and company reminds me of how Robotech kinda downplays Minmei's role in the war.
