True, but story telling is much more advanced. There’s a reason old movies and old books generally don’t have well defined characters. And it’s because writers just didn’t think people wanted relatable characters. They waned larger than life stories with larger than life heroes and villains.
This would hit harder if this guy wasn’t only saying this because they kicked him out of the fascist club. He’d be right there with them if they didn’t throw him under the bus. Now he’s a Democrat resistance fighter I guess? So cringe.
I think the main reason old sci-fi doesn’t quite hit as well as new sci-fi is people just didn’t used to write characters that were relatable. I love lots of A C Clark and Asimov stories. But they are kind of all cool stories with characters that were only there to have stuff happen to.

They were basically gone before that. Atlanta is just a shit place to be homeless. It was different when there was a punk scene here and kids had warehouses and places to crash. But that’s all gone now.
