Packed house, impassioned testimonies well after 11pm led to Nordyke’s motion and the Salem City Council to vote moving forward with declaring a state of emergency due to ICE terrorizing our city.

BREAKING NEWS: AG Rayfield announces lawsuit to return Newport’s search-and-rescue helicopter AG Dan Rayfield today announced that the State of Oregon, together with Lincoln County and the Newport Fishermen’s Wives organization, are filing lawsuits to compel the federal government to return the Coast Guard search-and-rescue helicopter abruptly removed from the Newport Air Facility. The Fishermen’s Wives and Lincoln County filed their lawsuit today; the State will file its lawsuit on Monday. The State’s lawsuit will argue that the removal of the helicopter violates federal statutory requirements and standards that mandate public notice, community input, and formal risk assessments before the Coast Guard may downgrade or relocate an air station or essential rescue asset. Those processes were not followed. For nearly four decades, the Newport-based helicopter has been a lifeline for coastal residents, fishermen, and visitors. Its sudden, unannounced overnight removal to North Bend—without any public notice, community consultation, or the risk assessments required under federal law—has left one of the most dangerous stretches of the Pacific Coast without timely aerial rescue coverage. Community members, local officials, and commercial fishermen have voiced deep concern that relocating the helicopter farther from Newport will significantly increase emergency response times.

Attended the "Ice Out of Our Barrio" event this Saturday put on by Latinos Unidos Siempre. An ofrenda was built to honor those who died by injustice. Amazing performances, sharing latino culture, brought beauty too these tough times.

This week, we’re in trial in the district court putting on evidence showing that the federal government’s deployment of National Guard is unlawful and unnecessary.

Here's what happened on day 1 and what's next:
Lawsuit update re: National Guard in Portland Trial, day 1: Law enforcement witnesses describe “startling” tactics from ICE officers What happened: Wednesday 10/29 through Friday 10/31, we’re in trial in the district court putting on evidence showing that the federal government’s deployment of National Guard is unlawful and unnecessary. On Wednesday, our witnesses - entirely local and state law enforcement officers in uniform - described how federal agents at the ICE building used “startling” excessive force and testified that local law enforcement was sufficient to handle any criminal activity. What's next: Thursday will mostly consist of the federal government’s case, including witness testimony from DHS and ICE officials. We will cross-examine those witnesses. We’ll continue to make our case that National Guard deployment in Oregon is unlawful and unnecessary - and we’ll continue to share updates as we have them.
