playing old fighting games makes me appreciate the convergent evolution of mechanics, where devs would take notes of what ideas are popular and try to implement them in their own way (sometimes to improve upon, or just riff)

In Sonic Chaos (Game Gear/Master System), the 3rd Special Stage is a repeating pipe area full of invincibility boxes blocking the entrance to every pipe despite having no damaging obstacles. The only purpose of these boxes is to change the music to fit better. Also there's one under the floor lol
