One of the teachers I coach came to me to tell me an AP in the building had listed webquests as a recommended strategy for him to start incorporating into his lessons.

I haven't seen anyone use a webquest since...2010? Is this still a lesson structure folks use?

THEY DO NOT WANT YOU TO READ

I AM BEGGING YOU TO READ

THERE IS A REASON THEY DO NOT WANT YOU TO READ!!

DON’T DO THEIR WORK FOR THEM BY REFUSING TO READ

Proud professor moment this week: all three of my students who I convinced to use their capstone projects as a starting point to submit a proposal to a local teacher practice focused literacy conference were accepted!

I'm so excited to see them all shine in March!

Last night my #LiteracyEd students presented their capstone projects and I could not be prouder of the work they did with action research, professional development, and self-reflection.

I definitely teared up on more than one occasion when they were sharing!

Ok #edusky My literacy specialist grad students are making digital posters to share their research from their capstone projects. I'm working on making their end of term presentations something exciting that makes it really feel like a conclusion to their program. We have a party. They present, etc

To be very clear, as a teacher I don't want "time-saving AI tools."

I want time.

Went down to see what our #SchoolLibrarian had set up for our #IfYouLikeThisReadThat lesson today and... y'all. She's so awesome.

Telling me your shiny, new, expensive tool is teacher-proof is the only red flag I need to end a conversation immediately. It's an insult. Tools are nothing without teachers who can facilitate thoughtful use that pushes kids to think critically, ask questions & solve big problems. #EduSky

Update: I gave one of the repeat Dogman readers a copy of Nimona on Friday. She came in today and told me she was on page 150 of 272.

This kid has not read more than 10 pages of any book she's picked up since the beginning of the school year.

So now I need more books like Nimona
Working with our amazing school librarian to plan a series of library visits for our struggling 9th graders. This month's theme is "if you liked x read y", pulling from some of the media they've shown interest in so we can help them find books they'll love. One of the titles they all love is Dogman.

I was trying to wrap up our #literacy team meeting this morning. One of my team members told me not to rush it because the conversation we were having would be one of the best any of us would have all day. And my heart has been so full ever since. And he was right. I love my team so much.

The textbook I inherited for my literacy action research course seems to have slowly and quietly shifted to on-demand printing. So it's not out of print, but it's not not out of print and the ebook version isn't easily accessible (Heinemann sends students a code through the actual mail??)

We're in our final class of this semester (it's the students' capstone projects for their literacy master's) and one of them brought homemade coquito for our celebration
