The Jewish right discovering in real time that the Trumpist right, and the open bigotries it has unleashed upon the US body politic, is not in fact going to spare Jews, is quite a trip.
The type of people who want to follow a raging narcissist who can never admit error already have their candidate. If you think that’s what it takes to be a good fighter you are extremely confused.
There are other candidates and the left has months to find someone else, the primary isn’t til next year.
He could have gotten out in front and maybe he can still turn it around by accepting responsibility, but he seems incapable of doing that which should tell you something about who he really is.
Are you under the impression that it's impossible to activate nonvoters? I'm old enough to remember when Obama got credit for increasing turnout and I wouldn't be surprised if Trump increased rural turnout during his three runs.
The "voter pool" is not stagnant and irregular voters exist.
You can just not support either. It's not hard! This isn't team sports and it never was.
And for the record, he could have easily got ahead of this issue and framed it as a story of personal growth instead of retreating into "they're out to get me cause I'm so great" bullshit. Big red flag.
“Real working-class politics does not assume the worst of working-class people’s impulses. It does not launder their concerns for political points. It certainly does not argue, directly or indirectly, that a little racism is a good thing for reaching them.”
New incredible detail here: ICE says a match in its facial recognition app Mobile Fortify is a "definitive" determination of a person's status, and that this overrides birth certificates. This is an app ICE is using in the field to scan people
Eh, they didn’t need the extra boat fight at the end. But back then every movie had extra endings (Con Air Vegas chase, Speed subway chase) so whatever, it was the style of the time.
I wonder how mainstream press would frame the “ceasefire” if Hamas killed 104 Israelis in one night. They’d probably use a different word than fragile!
How do you know it doesn't work in the other direction? When do Dem politicians go all in on demonizing the right or even standing for something beyond a defense of the status quo? Usually they are too busy denying they are left wing to even try to take control of the conversation.
There's a clear divide between the parties that people vote for and the policies they actually support. Kansas passed a referendum protecting abortion but Republicans dominate public office. Same in Missouri where they passed a referendum raising the minimum wage. It's not as clear as you think.
"Harris did not run on the left. She campaigned with the Cheneys and said the only real break she would have from Biden's approach was to bring Republicans into her administration."
I’m so confused, how is this different from Searchlight or the abundance agenda? Do they think if they flood the zone with new billionaire funded policy shops it’s going to fool people?
They are, but nonvoters and third party voters are not that. They make it very clear that it’s a false choice but some people refuse to listen and help fascism in the process.
I’ll say it again, lesser evil voting can’t win every time, so why get mad at voters when it inevitably fails?
The status quo has been deeply unpopular for decades with voters across the political spectrum. Be mad at people who frame the future as a choice between what everyone already hates and fascism. You can’t consistently beat something, no matter how evil it is, with nothing.
What’s the point of continuously kicking the can if you’re never going to address the underlying issues? Reagan made things worse and Clinton solidified those moves. Then Bush went even further and Obama solidified those moves. And on and on. I voted harm reduction, but it doesn’t solve anything.
Yeah, maybe if the last Dem admin had followed through on the John Lewis voting rights bill and the George Floyd policing bill it would have slightly helped. Maybe if the last several Dem admins had actually taken elite crime seriously it would have helped. Again, you’re mad at the wrong people.
Fine. But if our preferred outcome had happened we’d still end up with something just as bad in another four years because the status quo, while better than this, was already bad. How are you not getting that?
I feel like you’re focusing your anger at the wrong people.
I know what you said, but it doesn’t make sense to get mad when harm reduction strategies fail over the long term. That’s not what they are for. You can’t expect to bat 1.000 running on the lesser evil, it’s just not realistic.
Of course Dems wouldn’t be as bad, which is why I voted for Harris as I already said. But voting for the Democratic Party as it currently exists is a delaying action at best. Biden didn’t stop fascism, and Harris wouldn’t have either. The kick the can strategy doesn’t work.
It also ignores that Fox News (and Cuomo!) almost exclusively fear monger over the fact that he’s Muslim. “Polling indicates America at large still has a huge problem with Islamophobia” is the actual takeaway.
Here’s national polling on his policies, which are popular:
I voted for Harris and I've reliably voted Dem my whole life. Do you really think the Democratic Party being abysmal didn't contribute to where we are now? Do you really think a strategy of "just keep voting for bad Dems and never lose an election again" was a viable way to stave off fascism?
