My joining BlueSky is something of an experiment; is there a fine line separating enjoyable social media usage that connects those with similar interests, from bad-faith content farmers who infiltrate those spaces to create divisive, hostile atmospheres?

And if not, is it time to log off for good?
Rewatched Across The Spider-Verse & convinced at this rate that what many describe as ‘sensory overload’ is actually an issue with the sound mix. I’m aware in cinemas it had issues that later got fixed but as stands, a lot of fast-quipping dialogue goes missed and can often lead to disorientation. 📽️

This was the sort of realisation I had when I realised culture war politics is either side grifting constantly off one another and no one actually going outside and living in the real world.

Cool but please do not let franchise maintenance override the artistic and narrative integrity of Spider-Verse 3, I’m begging you.
Sony confirms the 'Spider-Punk' and 'Spider-Gwen' spinoff films are in active development 🕸️

Love the ambiguity in Killers of The Flower Moon of whether Earnest is aware that the medicine he's administering to Mollie is poisonous. A simple weasel of such weak conviction or self-assuredness, he likely wouldn’t have questioned it in the moment even if the thought did occur to him.

Nice to know after all these years, Rich STILL refuses to engage with Spider-Man as anything other than an instantly gratifying ode to superficial comic accuracy. It’s an incredible coming-of-age romance full of stylistic Raimi whimsy that’s heartbreakingly earnest in its human drama but whatever…

I’m pretty sure everyone judged Shrek because he was an Ogre…

Father-in-law asked why everyone was so mad at Billie Eilish but had somehow never heard of ICE. Which points to the exact problem. Our capitalist news would sooner inform him of outrage within ‘the culture wars’ than actual information on the things and incidents he would be rightly outraged over.

Highest 2 Lowest is about a wealthy media mogul who briefly considers NOT paying a ransom to save a teenager’s life, who in the second half bizarrely becomes the hero of the story.

But I can’t pretend I didn’t vibe with it a little. A wonderfully 90s score with Denzel & Wright crushing it as usual.

Always trust a movie 📽️ in such denial about its titular estate that it never bothered to check whether you’re allowed to fictitiously depict (negatively, no doubt) victims of child sexual assault.

Not being funny, if I were a professional critic, I would simply refuse to review the Melania movie. Last thing this fascist regime needs is free advertising for their propaganda slop.

Here I was thinking Ben Kingsley was playing an original character in Wonder Man. Completely forgot he was in Iron Man 3 and Shang-Chi 🤣

Just watched an episode of Jim Henson’s The Storyteller for the first time since I was maybe 6 years old and it’s honestly impressive how dark and imaginative it still is given its budget. It did so much with so little. The kid in me is still entranced and frightened. That man knew wtf he was doing.

So Daredevil Born Again still looks like THAT, huh?

Aside from the cinematography, there may be things to get excited about, but we’ve been wronged before.

It’s not that it doesn’t occur to these producers that learning what you’re doing as an actor weeks in advance might help enhance your performance, they genuinely do not care.

Not if mild story spoilers/leaks can impact their bottom line.
Elizabeth Olsen learned three weeks before filming 'Doctor Strange 2' that she’d be the main villain

"I thought I was going to be one of the good guys ... I had no clue"

Can’t stop thinking about this moment.

That tiny lowering of the gun as he relents, understanding completely who he is, the part he played in all this and who the real enemies are. A sign of humanity that tragically comes too late.

It’s an absolute crime that we didn’t get a full week to properly digest & discuss Andor’s ‘Who Are You?’, a masterclass in suspense and tragedy.

Instead, it’s quietly dumped as one of three episodes, robbed of its impact & cultural moment.

Disney’s release schedule really screwed these guys.

Is Civil War actually an affront to humanity or do its artistic intentions simply not align with the ones you prematurely ascribed to it?

Big ups to Mark Kermode for wading thru the obnoxiously loud hate campaign that clearly has little to do with the ‘sanctity’ of 1939’s Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs, and cleanly divorce his review from culture war nonsense, to actually review the movie itself.

Others could learn a thing or two.
