I’ve been thinking about this since I got into RE, even though that particular fandom dynamic in mlm pairings isn’t unique to RE, and I suspect a lot comes down to the complicated relationship post-tumblr feminist fandom has developed with masculinity.

especially when leon and chris are SO similar, many of the flaws we see in chris are near replicated in leon, but for chris they’re used to paint him as a bad guy, and for leon to tell us we should feel boundless sympathy for him. i don’t fucking get it!!!

it baffles me to see the so many ppl in the fandom have this perception of chris as an emotionally unintelligent brute who knows nothing but “shoot gun!!” and “punch boulder!!”. and i’m not saying chris doesn’t have his flaws but why does his character have to come at the expense of another?

maybe it’s just me, but it feels like a lot of chreon fans don’t actually… like chris as a character? like, they’d rather use him as a prop to make leon look smarter, cooler, hotter, better in every way – do you even like chreon?! why ship leon with a man you think is completely inept?!
