ワルシャワ蜂起において、ソ連赤軍はワルシャワ近郊で進撃を停止し、ポーランド国内軍を支援しなかった。これは蜂起に対する「見殺し」であり、ポーランドの悲劇の一つだ。ソ連はワルシャワでのポーランド人の蜂起を支援するのではなく、西の解放を待っており、その間にドイツ軍による蜂起鎮圧でワルシャワが壊滅する状況を作り出した。
