To be fair, the New York Times will no doubt run an opinion piece on this story—explaining why what looks like an unconstitutional use of excessive force against someone who has committed absolutely no crime…is actually just fine.

Trump has let the world know that he’s for sale to the highest bidder. That “free” jet he received from Qatar got them a military base on American soil. What this deal may wind up costing American citizens—whether in taxes or weakened national security—is incalculable.

The way the NY Times has both-sided Trump’s authoritarian takeover is unbelievable. I’m glad they didn’t cover WWII in the same way. If they had we wouldn’t just be seeing a rebirth of fascism in 2025–we might instead have seen our democracy fall to fascism in the 1940s.

This report is disappointing for all kinds of reasons—not least that it suggests Trump may not be as wrecked as I’d like him to be over the news that didn’t receive the prize. He may think of it as a “win” if it appears to sanction his undeclared war on Venezuela.
