🎉 Big news — my first PhD paper got published in iScience!
Together with Tobias Schmidt, @bjarnesteffen.bsky.social & Florian Egli, we studied the internationalization of renewable energy finance — how capital flows between countries to fund large-scale clean energy projects.

Our🚨new study🚨in @naturecomms.bsky.social shows how export credit agencies (ECAs)—large govt-backed financiers—are boosting renewables ✅ but still pouring billions into oil & gas while shifting finance away from lower-income to wealthier countries❌

There is another really really important thing in this story: fossil companies exaggerate CCS operation by using "installed capacity" rather than 'amount captured'.

🌍 Swiss National Bank (SNB) breaches own rules, Swiss climate law, and recommendations of Network for Greening the Financial System (of which SNB is a member) by accepting high climate-risk collateral assets. Urgent call to align with climate goals and exclude risky assets. #ClimateRisk #SNB
SNB collateral framework ignores climate risk, study finds - Green Central Banking

Just 11% of the world flew in 2018.

A tiny group of very frequent flyers, 1% of world population, account for 50% of airline emissions.

A French climate expert called for people to be limited to just four flights in their lifetime. 41% said they were in favour.

2023 will very likely end up exceeding the 1.5°C warming threshold exstablished in Paris.

September 2023 Temperature Update 🔥

Warmest September & largest anomaly ever measured, shattering previous September record.

Warming since August concentrated in polar regions.

Near certain that 2023 becomes the warmest year.

Likely 2023 exceeds 1.5 °C.

Disinfo works.

There can be no *new* oil and gas drilling if we want a safe, habitable world.

Yet, a tiny club of wealthy countries – 🇺🇸US, 🇨🇦Canada, 🇦🇺Australia, 🇳🇴Norway and 🇬🇧the UK – are responsible for *51% of all planned oil and gas field developments* from now to 2050.

That's the real hypocrisy ahead of #COP28

Now it’s solar being restricted because of apparent worries about food security.

Reminder: golf courses take up 7x more space than current solar farms as @drsimevans.bsky.social calculated.
