A lot of people seemed to think Trump would bring an end to all of our entanglements in the Middle East and usher in a new age of peace.

Where did they get that idea?

This piece takes a look at Epstein and his ties to both Columbus, Ohio, and Ohio billionaire Les Wexner, who claimed today before Congress that he was duped by Epstein (which seems unlikely).

I thought it was pretty interesting.

This case, imo, is fascinating window to gulf between the way things are presented and what they really are.

25 years ago, a bunch of libertarians moved to NH to take over state government. Jason Osborne, one of those "Free Staters," has since risen to be majority leader in the state house.

How is he fighting for "liberty?" By helping Stephen Miller build a 324,000-foot prison for migrants and refugees.

Caught up with Maps to the Stars, David Cronenberg's queasily hypnotic 2014 Hollywood satire and an altogether different beast of horror film than the ones he usually makes. Scathing and tragic, I liked this a lot, without always fully understanding why. The cast - especially Julianne Moore in

RIP, what a songwriting ninja

"True Colors": beautiful song, one of those perfect pop conceits, amazing no one had landed on it before

"Like A Virgin": totally audacious for 1984. Also one of the great opening lines: "I made it through the wilderness/Somehow I made it through." Madonna or Dante?
Billy Steinberg RIP

You may not immediately know the name but by jingo you've heard Like A Virgin, Alone, So Emotional, True Colors, I Touch Myself, I Drove All Night, I'll Stand By You and Eternal Flame.

Duvall had an innate sense of how to physically embody a character in terms of body language, posture and gestures.
I didn’t even notice that he didn’t duck for cover first time I saw Apocalypse Now.
If felt completely right that Kilgore wouldn’t flinch or be put out by explosions as he was war.
Robert Duvall is 95
Apart from his famous dialogue in Apocalypse Now, it was moments like this that made me realise how insane Kilgore was.
Bombs going off, everyone ducking but just a normal day for the Colonel.
