Mike Johnson dismisses concerns about Trump's lawless deadly strikes on boats: "My Democrat colleagues would come out of any hearing with the administration and say it was inadequate. I mean, it's politics."
Happy to spend some time with "my people" -- translators and interpreters -- at this year's American Translators Association conference! #ATA66

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Greg Newby, who led Project Gutenberg ( @gutenberg.org ) with passion and purpose. Greg’s belief in free and open access to knowledge continues to inspire us and so many others working to preserve our shared culture online. gutenberg.org/about/newby....

Happy #InternationalTranslationDay! 🪶

To every translator fighting for credits, legitimacy or against AI right now: remember 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁.

according to conservatives on the court, the constitution does not protect your right to your own body but does enable the government to ship you off to a foreign gulag without any hope of return
NEW: The Supreme Court's conservatives halt a preliminary injunction that had restricted the Trump administration's ability to rapidly deport migrants to "third countries" where they have never lived and where allegedly face torture. All three liberals dissent. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

USMC Ret. Lt. Colonel Joe Plenzler deployed with the same Marine battalion now heading to Los Angeles.

Marines training for war are now being deployed against American citizens. This crosses a dangerous line.

Also, LGBTQIA means we gotta support folx who are trans or ace or intersex. Pride Month is for everyone in the whole alphabet soup, so everybody gets glitter. So before you march, please make sure you have enough glitter for the whole team and WEAR SUNSCREEN.
Hello Pride Month! 🏳‍🌈🏳‍🌈🏳‍🌈

Let's end bisexual & pansexual invisibility. Don't assume we're straight because we're with a member of the opposite sex, and don't assume we're lesbians/gay men because we're with a member of the same sex.

I’m reading Palmer’s “Inventing the Renaissance,” which covers these folks and many more - it’s amazing.
Also, canonically queer Ninja Turtle namesakes!
This will allow Michigan's medical professionals to comply with the ethics rules of their profession, and it will SIGNIFICANTLY reduce the burden on people seeking care.
A reminder that science does win sometimes. The government of Michigan can no longer require medical professionals to distribute false information. They will also be able to prescribe abortion medications in 1 visit instead of over 2 visits.
When I was in college many years ago, our Health Center had a lot of problems. But I am happy to say that it gave me access to one of the best therapists that I've ever had. I was in a very bad place with my depression, and having access to her care on campus was invaluable. Students need this care.
“After school shootings, many Republicans try to shift the public conversation away from gun violence and toward mental health programs that might make mass shootings less likely. Student mental health grants had bipartisan support.

Student mental health grants had bipartisan support, but Trump is cutting them anyway
There’s no good reason for the Trump administration to cut grants for student mental health programs. It’s happening anyway.

Pol Pot = such a timely subject. Sometimes we can't grok certain things without a historical story. To illustrate the harms of ending birthright citizenship, I use the story of how Japan created generations of stateless ethnic Koreans after WW2. Would love it if BtB covered something like that.
