#GothicManuscripts Sherborne Missal, 1399-1407, England, detail of the Resurrection. I think the sleeping soldiers kits are quite snazzy and colorful. The brilliant patterned red sky behind Christ is impressive & the dog snoozing nearby is quite cute.
I kind of keep forgetting to post here, but I will try to do better ... to make up for it a 1962 Harry Winston ad featuring a Siamese cat originally painted by Kwo Da Wei (aka David Kwok) whose lithographs were very popular in the 1950s and early 1960s.
Really interesting comparison!

Thinking about prof Jane Dawson's lecture last night: 'Rycht honorabill' ladies,' I cant stop thinking of Scottish 'revenge portraits' used to keep a feud alive. Especially in relation to images of Christ.. (The Bonnie Earl of Moray,'vendetta portrait'; Holbein, Body of the Dead Christ, Kunstmuseum)
Fantastic autumn leaves here in Ohio

Hello!
Welcome☺️
I'm camping out here just in case Twitter collapses... I hope it doesn't. If it does, I hope all the wonderful folks migrate over here.
Eventum, A Journal of Medieval Arts and Rituals has just been published with some very interesting looking articles--best of all, it's free so independent scholars can access it:

So. You need a map. Your editor insists, & the thing you downloaded from Wikipedia won't cut it.

I can help!

I draw custom maps on commission. My website has details about cost, process, etc, along with customer reviews:

Apologies for the lack of posts. #Romanesque Can anyone confirm that the figure in the top left is the Virgin Mary? Giselbertus, Weighing of the Souls, Cathedral of St. Lazare, Autun, France.

Incised into a reindeer foot-bone probably some 15,000 years ago, this engraving represents two hinds. The realistic rendering of the drawing is amazing!
Found in the Grotte de Chaffaud. It's the first finds of paleolithic mobile art, discovered in the 1830s

Thank you! School starting put me behind checking this site, but I am very encouraged.
Hello, Trying this out. I'm still on Twitter and am unsure about here, but what invited by a very kind person. I work on #FontCovers in late-medieval churches in England. Pretty niche, I know. Plus I love cats, flowers, birds. All the usual pretty stuff.
Hello -- thank you again for the invitation code and the warm welcome!
