We urgently need a ray of light. With the failure of COP30, the planned surrender of Ukraine, what's going on in Gaza, the soon to be redacted Epstein files, ICE... it is very, very hard to feel minimally optimistic. I feel we're all doomed and I do hate that feeling because it helps the villains.

I'm an English Literature teacher in Spain and can say that interest in studying foreign languages other than English is also vanishing here. The colleagues in the French Dept lost their degree a while ago, the German teachers in my Dept are desperate for students
