Looking through the daily sketchbook/notebook I brought to Madagascar. I can't believe it's already 8 years ago.
I was my dream to go since I was 13 and it's the only 'exotic wildlife' trip I've ever been on. My body can't handle a lot so I'm not sure if I could ever return most of these areas.
Sketchbook page with ballpoint pen and watercolor notes and sketches. Text: Day 12 Andasibe NP 'Today we got awoken by the call of the indri. In Andasibe we found three lemur sp!' Text: Day 15 'Today we made a morning hike to Ankarafantsika NP and saw a ton of animals! Some were: - Coquerel's sifaka (with baby!) - Brown lemur - Paradise flycatcher (white!) - Snake-eyed gecko - Flatid leaf bug nymph - Cuckoo roller - Red-capped coua - Nile crocodile + dumb egret - Ant lion - Rufous vanga - Van Dam's vanga - Sickle-billed vanga - Madagascar swift (lizard) Afterwards we made the long, long drive to Antsohihy and in the evening we arrived at our hotel with pizza (!) and airco (!!!)' Text: Day 16 'Today we got on a speedboat and sailed through the mangrove to get to the Sahamalaza area. After meeting the King of Town we went on the hike up to the camp. I was too sick to get up or eat so I also couldn’t join to see any of the research sites or forests, which was quite a bummer since it was the event the whole trip was based around! Thomas, Eden and my mom stayed to take care of me. However, in the afternoon I felt okay enough to briefly made a 1km hike, joined by guides. Soon we got a good view of both a sportive lemur (awake!) and a blue eyed lemurs!’ Illustrations: Lepilemur sahamalenzis Eulemur flavifrons ♂ Eulemur flavifrons ♀ ‘Sahamalaza sportive lemur & blue eyed lemurs. I almost fainted right after and was in bed the rest of the time, but so worth it!!’
