for example, the previous Ajuntament fumbled the redevelopment of the Glòries square trying to avoid any "pharaonic" (their words) projects in the city, reducing the amount of potential housing (public or private) on a fairly large greenfield site. same thing happening w/La Sagrera train station

in the case of Barcelona, probably it would be for more ambitious permission for housing in the places where there's green space for it, instead of the current 4-5 above ground floors that predominate and end up limiting much new development below even 1960s/70s densities in a lot of places

anecdotally, that is definitely the lesson the left learned here. "no speculation!"(any development) and vague platitudes about socializing housing and neighborhoods being for "the neighbors" (undefined) are probably the most evergreen left-wing urban talking points since before I moved here in 2014

since Barcelona sits on a diagonal grid, my only guide is Mediterranean east/southeast, everything else is in spatial relation to the axis of the city, so Girona NE, Tarragona SW, Collserola NW

the cardinal directions are sort of inextricably linked to body relative directions in my mind. north/south is up/down and east/west is right/left without me having to think about it much. situations where orientation is not compass aligned throw me off and I have to think about it geometrically lol
