The aurora came out again last night. I was in town, so the light pollution was a bit tricky in terms of getting a picture, but the northern lights are an incredible sight no matter what. Love you. #auroraborealis #northernlights #yukonterritory
This is what the aurora borealis look like with a certain amount of light pollution. In the village I live in, the bright streetlights make it hard to see the vivid glow of the aurora. I think about the world that could be. And the biodiversity that was, centuries ago. This is such a beautiful planet and we are blessed with the ability to love so deeply, intently, wildly… and we are of nature so that is from nature. I think about this. The riot of devoted alive love we could give.
A bloom on a paperwhite flower A soft and contented cat who watches the birdfeeder with a very awkward facial expression that gives me reason to keep him indoors unless supervised. A pitbull. Love in purest form, concentrated and selfless and huge. A rabbit. Tender and shy and so brave she is the boss of both her cat and her pitbull. A grunting delight who will fight the vacuum cleaner and scare it away. She likes to eat cords and blankets and anything she finds so I try really hard to cover her play area with hay and keep her from electrical wiring.

A lop rabbit lounges on a yoga mat that has a lot of hay and fluff on it. This is a photo of the backside of the rabbit. Why? Who knows. Levity. We need to look at the buns of buns and take a little hope because we live in awful times but we live on a planet that not only made bunnies but also gave them cute butts, and this tells me that we live on a wonderful and good planet.

Herbie can see that Magpies have taken over the bird feeder again and are not sharing with the smaller birds. He will not be silent as they kick the birdseed everywhere. The injustice will not be tolerated.

Driving in to town this morning and saw a touch of the aurora. This is the first time I have seen it with blue tones. Lovely. Strange. A bit stronger through the phone pictures than my eyes could see in real life, but very beautiful either way.

A sudden urgent thought: does my dog know that he is a dog? The loveliest dog? The sweetest weirdo who I worry about, who is so good-hearted that it rips my soul in half to leave the house?

This is Herbie, a 5 year old pitbull who is much more than that. He was given away as a puppy after being sold by a breeder. He was left at someone else’s house, then he was offered to my family. I said give me that baby right now. He has anxiety and is overprotective and my job is to soothe and love him and I do. He keeps me going through everything. He loves cats and rabbits and most dogs and once he feels safe with humans he loves them too. He drools at the sight of fresh veggies and sleeps in my armpit. Highly recommend as many dogs as you can safely care for.

I am not certain what kind of bird this is, it was alone and it was jumping in and out of a creek with seriously freezing water. Perhaps an American Dipper? It swam happily and hopped in and out of this creek with absolute peace. Hats off to this tough little love. #birds
