There are only two things to aim for in life:
1) be happy;
2) be not a burden on others.
Balancing these two things is life's essential challenge.
Don't stop in doorways or at the top or bottom of escalators.

For parents at their kids' sports meets, there are really only three things to say: "GO!", "YAY!" or "AWW!", in variations.

Enshittification. The reason I drifted to Bluesky here and expect I'll eventually drift away. We shall see.

(Bluesky is where I share my thoughts for public conversation.)

the footnote:"See E Fraenkel, The Dual State, pp xiii, 3, 71 (1941) (describing the way in which the creation of a ‘Prerogative State’ where the Executive ‘exercises unlimited arbitrariness … unchecked by any legal guarantees’ is incompatible with the rule of law)"
"There was the normative one that kept the economy of Germany running as usual. And then there was the separate legal system that operated alongside it, in which anyone deemed an enemy of the regime was stripped of all rights and subjected to arbitrary violence."
"Fraenkel’s book analysed how the Nazis had created two coexistent legal systems.
What is the significance of the "in Texas" part of this post?
Chump's proclamations-by-tweet read like bits of script written by a teenager who's trying to imitate official-sounding language without having heard or read any.

(This assumes that you want people to come visit. If not, substitute "enough that you are comfortable living there", referring to Rule 1: be happy & not a burden on others.)
Keep your place clean enough that people are comfortable coming to visit, and also messy enough that people are comfortable coming to visit.

Where is this event happening?

And who is Felonious Monk? I need to give them a fist bump because that's the punchline of the best extended pun/joke I ever told! 🤜🤛
Put the trash can right where you will use it. Put the guitar right where you will grab it to practice.

It makes me chuckle to imagine anyone discovering NK Jemisin through a Marie Claire book review.
www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025... The official is right, but a better statement would have been, "Mr Kirk was not a native Iowan nor a special friend of Iowa. Lowering the flag for him but not other shooting victims would show improper, disrespectful political bias." #politics

“It is unacceptable for A&M system faculty to push a political agenda.”—Glenn Hegar, chancellor.

So is he going to fire himself now, for Trumpism? And the whole PoliSci department, for studying politics?

I'm left wondering why a federal bill is an worthwhile way to address the problem. How about a link to your proposed bill, or at least summary of its content?

It took till now for the forces of evil (might-is-right narcissists, bigots and cheats) to break it down, but break it they have. What's next for us? Possibly/probably it's devolution of power to the states. TBD.
We have to build new, different institutions, systems and structures that they (or anyone else) can't defeat. The Constitution was an attempt to do just that, in the era it was created.
We know animals can bite us, but we we just take precautions, wear armor, build fences, carry weapons, spread poison... Sound familiar? ☹️ I don't think our resistance should be built on any presumption of fear on the part of our opponents. We have to beat them whether they fear us or not.

Seen in a Reddit post: "Deep in their cold empty hearts they fear us and rightfully so. We outnumber them but only if we stand as one."

I don't believe they do fear us. Why would they, any more than most people fear wildlife?
