In the few times I've talked to my mom recently I've noticed she's picked up a funny little verbal pattern where she essentially says "I've been saying this" in spanish between sentences

even like the spanish conquest could not have happened the way it did if there wasn't a preexisting network of "centralized states" to conquer. And you can even run with that and look at how the decentralized areas almost never fell to spanish conquest
