This is the plan that the coalition government says is "not about centralising power". Jesus wept. www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

Ah yes, the real problem with local government: that people don't know the difference between city councils and regional councils.

That'll solve the infrastructure deficit, the unfunded mandate, the poor behaviour, and the scapegoating from central government. Well done, boys!

And I can't emphasise enough how much the harassment doesn't stop when you leave.

I lost the election and people were still calling me a cunt.

On here, someone in my replies said I didn't care about Maaori wards, that I didn't get to be upset about the election and I wasn't disabled (!)
The abuse Julie Fairey copped after being HIT BY A CAR is exactly what happens when we treat online harm as background noise. Women in politics bear the brunt, especially women of colour. Until NZ actually regulates platforms properly, this will keep happening #nzpol

'It just seems cruel': Councillor shocked by comments after cycling accident
Councillor Julie Fairey has become accustomed to abusive comments - but she was still stunned.

Rewatching New Girl:

Brad - "I'm like a non-republican Schmidt"

Me - "you know you're Winston, right"

"that's so rude"

It's actually ridiculous that we don't have the same rules for cats as we so for dogs (micro-chipping and neutering). I heard that Celia Wade-Brown was working on the legislation for it though.
If we could throw in some mandatory registration and neutering for house cats that would be primo.

I was taking about this at our branch meeting on Monday, but all of this *gestures* is to wear us down. It's horrific, and inhumane, and the goal is so make us give up.

We have to look after ourselves and we have to look after each other more than ever.

If I learnt one thing working in healthcare, it's that non clinical people should not tutu with clinical decisions.

Politicians are included in that category.

An absolutely delightful evening at Unity Books for the launch of Francis Aschoff's debut book of poetry. Go get yourself a copy!

Just had the best landing into Wellington I've probably ever had. Like it was nothing.

But the pilot did tell the plane earlier the temperature and weather conditions for Christchurch and say he hoped we'd enjoy our time in Canterbury. Which successfully freaked out the plane 🤣

Absolutely batshit interaction with a website hosting provider.

Started getting resource limit exceeded error. Logged into cpanel to check it out - no files. Completely empty. Except the WordPress back end still exists and can log into it.

Called up our hosting to be like, where's our files?

Departing via Perth and really feeling that lack of seating thought passport / TRS / security, and then a long walk via duty free.

Plenty of seating at the gates but by now my feet and legs are aching and my back is killing me.
Got into Perth Airport at 10pm their time (3am ours), spent an hour and a half getting through customs and security. Whole sections (esp baggage and customs) with no seating at all. Makes it very very hard on the body, and adding extra fatigue and pain onto an already long journey.

Huh, that compulsory voting in Australia must really work...

A very niche comparison, but absolutely astounded by some of the fabric prices in Perth.

I got hand woven (like, on a hand loom!) artisan fabric for -drumroll- AU$12/m! That's about NZ$14.

I'd of been paying probably $30-60/m at home, if I could source it at all.
November 14, 2025 at 10:44 PM
I can have UNLIMITED travel in Perth on their PT system - buses AND trains for AU$10

ARE YOU SHITTING ME

I've very much enjoyed Brad's introduction to the noise crows make - "Is that a cat? Being sick? What is that noise?" 😂

Why (some) men great til they gotta be great, again.

We went through Louise Nicholas; bad apples, never again.

We went through Roastbusters; bad apples, never again.

We go through this every couple of years, and that’s just what gets made public.

It’s not good enough. We all deserve better.
IPCA report says the PM and Police Minister were in receipt of the McSkimming emails

Would be nice to get some answers about who kew what & when about all of that

We live in a country v much divided by those who have experienced police inaction, or worse - and those who haven't. I saw it constantly when talking about getting death threats or stalked - "I hope someone called the cops!". Why? Why would you assume they were going to do anything helpful?

My experience in the Australian health system was v good, but as I've been out a few days now, I can't help but sigh - one of the nurses told me off for "getting wound up" as they tried to take blood.

They were, for one, pushing the cannula needle into my hand. I have huge bruises.
