Five star review for The Living Stone by Niamh Schmid

Great read accompanied by some chameleon tea (made me laugh)!

A great blend of magic, world building! The steampunk elements are really cool, too!

The story keeps you captivated and wanting to turn the page. I really love how the answers to questions unfold alongside the plot, rather than being told everything up front. It's an aspect of this entire series that I really appreciate.

You come to care for these characters in book 2 of the series, but it's been amazing in this book learning more of the characters' backstory. It adds so much to them and you come to appreciate each one even more!

Really nice to see Baey come into her own, her growth, but also everything she brings to the table and her friendship with Sven and Estasia! Sven and Estasia remain two of my favorites!

Exciting action, made all the more satisfying for the training leading up to it!

The chapters with Skayla offer incredible insight into her character, motivations, and even possibly what happened to her!

I really feel for Tanner and the burden of his power.

Each character offers so much insight about different aspects of the world! Complex characters with complex relationships. And the new characters quickly fall into the category of favorites, as well (looking at Marion in particular!)

The shocks and the heart break and the hopelessness and then the twists in part two that I never saw coming!!! It's everything I fell in love with in this series, keeping you absolutely enthralled until the last page and immediately needing more!

Great read accompanied by some chameleon tea (made me laugh)!

Japanese mythology in a Princess Bride style retelling!

What a fun way to learn about a myth! I was unfamiliar with the story of Princess Kaguya and simply could not pass up the combination of Japanese mythology in a Princess Bride style retelling! This mother son duo was a sweet juxtaposition/foil to Kaguya's own sad ending. The story itself is told in a really fun way and I enjoyed the interjections, theories, interpretations, and the realism of the characters' interactions. Between the son's humorous alien conspiracies and the mother's thoughtful consideration for the power of such stories, it made for a highly enjoyable read.

Got to do a book presentation/writing workshop for a local 5th grade class. It was a great experience--the kids were all very excited. They even wrote us the sweetest thank you letters 💙

That being said, I'm pretty sure one of them completely roasted me 🤣🤣🤣 Not sure I can recover from this one 😭🤣
